Believe it or not, when this song came out in the seventies, I was a teenager living on a farm in the south of Germany. My knowledge of the English language was good enough to understand the lyrics. After the suicide of my father my mother was overprotective and tried to impose her ideas on me about faith and any other aspect of life. At the time I was not able to distance myself from her - and this song clearly expressed my feelings. It kept me going to free myself from the fetters and chains. It has really changed my life.

I'm raised on hip hop. I HATED when my dad would put his music on, BUT, when he put on billy Joel, I would instantly be in a better mood today. Even today, I go from "hardcore" rap, trap, to billy Joel. Easily one of the greats, from the voice to the message that I e understood even as a child. NatashaDNP It's awesome that you're a Billy Joel fan! I am too. And YES he has written and recorded some of the best pop and rock music of ALL TIME. I wasn't negating your comment (or point)... just letting Jorge know his grammar was acceptable. But now that you mention it - - - Billy isn't really making new music any more? His last "actual" album (not counting live/concert recordings or that classical l.p. he released in 2001) was in 1993. "River of Dreams" was released 21 years ago. His last single "To Make You Feel My Love" from 1997 was written by Bob Dylan... which is unusual, since Billy typically only records songs that he's written. Anyway, no big deal, cause the real point we all seem to agree on, is that Billy Joel is AWESOME.
