I am 38, and I've loved music all my life. For some reason I am discovering Billy Joel now. It is the same wonderful and special feeling as when I discovered the Beatles, The Police, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Elton John, Stevie Wonder... Each new song I find is a gem of music, feellings and styles. It's a wonderful experience that doesn't happen many times in life and I didn't expect it to have at this age. Thank you Billy Joel.

I came across this song on a reel on FB. FB lead me here and this is my FIRST time hearing this!!! This track is singing straight FACTS!!! When you distance yourself from toxic people and their behaviors, you get a sense of “I don’t give a f*** attitude” and this is the BEST VERSION of yourself and being at peace. This song speaks so many volumes

Baby, what you just said has been my anthem since the early 90’s…. and after ‘coming out’, this song says more than I ever knew it could.. I’m glad you found it👍👍🏳️🌈👍

I first heard this song around 40 years ago and it was always a favorite as a kid and young teen. Glad to hear you've discovered it now all these years later. So cool that good music is timeless and cross generational

I'm sure you've checked out more of his stuff by now, but if you haven't, you should check out "I'm movin' out". Very similar vibe- old school, lively, upbeat, one truth bomb after another.

@@ryusato5594Funny you mention that, that's another one of my favorite Billy Joel songs. An anthem of independence. Something us trailblazers need.

My mother's favorite song. She introduced this song to me as a kid, and I'm forever grateful. Not only does this song also apply to me, but also, further, to people who I know. In a twisted sense, I'm the cause of others to feel this song to be applied to, as well. Yes, this song may be a testament to the philosophy, "Friends come and go", but we all need to go on our own path, eventually. Either way, this is a timeless classic.

I have always liked this song. It is a song with substance. Billy Joel didn't minced his words in this song. Just told it as it was. Total honesty.

This song is awsome. The lyrics is so contemporary and the piano is just a ton of fun. Everytime I hear this song after a long time I go on a binge and spend a week listening. This week a dude at work was humming it and it stuck in my head. This was wednesday. Today is sunday and I've listened to it more times than I remember. It's always like this.

Lately those high piano key notes at the end of the song were coming up in my memory so here I am. Even though I never bought an album of his, I grew up with Billy Joel on morning radio in Philadelphia. Billy’s music was a huge part of my world growing up, and songs like this one and Allentown defined the mood of everything in my environment. The 90s was a total departure, and his presence waned, but he’s always going to be there. Captain Jack was another one that hit me at work the other day. I’ve got to tell you these are definitely young, restless songs about youth and the aversion to sacrifice without meaning, but I work a tough job now and I promise you it’s nothing like Billy’s songs if you’ve found your center and your life has yielded you some things. It doesn’t have to be a ‘dead end.’ That said, Billy’s songs serve more to me now, not as a cynical disdain for labor, but as a warning not to succumb to your narcissism - they’re more like examples of what happens when you lose the plot for a self-centered lack of imagination, which I’m happy to say is not caused by hard work and sacrifice, as long as you know what you’re serving.

During the 80's, I had this Walkman and cassette tapes of Billy Joel, so it becomes one of my favorite singer along with Elton John, Duran Duran, Tears for Fears and Spandau Ballet. 80's is the era of great music and until now it became a classic.

Thanks for my uncle to love music and played this when I was a kid! I can see myself at that moment I first heard it! I was jumping around enjoying it. Hanging out with my freshly out of the Army uncle. He hadn’t married yet! Not a miserable man back then. Bought his new camaro and dating his first wife. I remember they taking me to the park and being on the swings! I’m glad my aunts and uncle letting me Tagalog on their dates.

Although not intended, this is one of the most emotional songs for me. I remember listening to this song on the way to visit my grandad in hospital not thinking much of it at the time. After he passed, I was having a really bad day missing him and as I was walking home put my music on shuffle and this was the first song that came on. When I actually stopped to listen to the lyrics, in particular the chorus, I started crying it was like my grandad was telling me he was okay where he was and he didn’t want to come ‘home’. It comforts me listening to it as I feel like it’s my grandad telling me that he’s okay and that he wants me to move on and live my life to the fullest.
