Billy has never been a fan of awards shows and red carpets. He doesn't like being the center of attention unless he's actually playing. He doesn't have an entourage or anything like that, and never has. Very down to earth and has never really changed who he is. I love how he and his wife Alexis are tag teaming in deflecting some of the super redundant stuff he keeps getting asked. I'm sure he was ready to crawl every time anyone tried to ask him about "Piano Man." He gets so tired of that song lol.

I know Billy hates to be put on the spot and being the center of attention and you can see him so uncomfortable having to answer all the stupid questions these two unprepared interviewers are throwing at him. Have better prepared people to ask better questions.

This interview was painful. It's like the interviewer has no idea anything about him as a person and is just fangirling instead of interviewing. He gave several setups that were perfect. He talked about the lecture series that he used to do, that he loved teaching. Why not ask him about that. Ask him questions that open him up to talk conversational style. Instead, they asked questions where they wanted a specific answer and they wanted it in short tidbits when the answers should have had time to be long form. He is more of a storyteller with interesting perspective, someone who you want to go off on rants, you want to talk to him as a person instead of a figurehead. But, as he said in a song, they cut it down to 3:05, nearly perfectly. They asked questions that would fit on the red carpet interview time allotment and you end up with a very awkward, punctate style interview as a result.
