Great song with brilliant lyrics. Who hasnt been this guy before. She cuts you out, she cuts you down She carves up your life But you won't do nothng As she keeps on cutting 'Cause you know you love the knife You've been bought, you've been sold You've been locked outside the door But you stand there pleadin' With your insides bleedin' 'Cause you deep down want some more Then she says she needs affection While she searches for the vein She's so good with her stiletto, You don't really mind the pain

Hi gentlemen. Love your channel. My suggestion is to listen to the entire 52nd St. album. In my humble opinion, one of the best albums of the 1970s. It didn't win album of the year at the Grammys for nothing!😎👍👍

@@AirplayBeats Hi again. When you gentlemen listen to the whole 52nd St. album by Billy Joel, just start listening to The Stranger by Joel. The Stranger came out a year before 52nd St. Having 2 highly successful albums released back to back was not an easy thing to do.If I was to take an educated guess, I'd say Elton John, the Stones,& Stevie Wonder have done it.And all were done in the 70s! Have a great weekend gentelmen🙂👍

This was the first 8-track cassette I'd ever owned. It was 1978, I was 17 and I had an old under dash 8-track player in my 1973 Chevy Nova and I played the HELL out of it. To this day, "Stiletto" REMAINS my all-time favorite Billy Joel song‼️🧔🏻👍❤️

He was the last performer to play at the old NY Mets Stadium. The next morning they were tearing it down. That concert video is available with surprise guest Paul McCartney. Billy had one of the great closing statement he always gave to his audiences everywhere. He would say “Thanks for coming tonight and remember, don’t take shit off anyone!” Now that’s a guy who grew up in New York! This is one of Billy’s finest albums. His drummer Liberty Devito is worth the price of admission, as he’s one of the great showman and hard hitter’s in Pro Music. Also, his sax player is Top Shelf who can hold his own with the best. I believe David Brown Jr is one of the guitarists used for this Tour. His albums, 52nd Street and The Stranger were made when this group was at its peak with a harder edge. Any concert vids from late 70’s are some of the best shows period. Especially when he plays Rootbeer Rag to intro one of his songs. Those who know, know. 🤘😎

Finally, a reaction to Stiletto! One of my favorites. Of all the reactors I follow who've been on Billy Joel kicks, nobody has touched the deeper cuts (haha, pun not intended). So glad you checked this out and heard the source of the hip hop samples. Until I started watching these videos I had no idea that hip hop artists sampled Billy Joel's music, of all people! I think that's great.

@@jamishops oh yeah, Harri of course! I can always rely on him for a good Billy Joel song. I think the "problem" is that Billy has had so many hits that it takes a while to get to the album tracks!

Guys your reaction was dope. In 1978 I was 10 yrs old and would sit on the carpet of our den and listen to 52nd street for hours and hours every day after school reading every lyric on the inside jacket cover. Somehow I realized at that age Billy was a genius and as I got older I went back and bought his first album cold spring harbor, piano man and eventually everyone one through river of dreams in 1993. So glad even 50 yrs later the world is discovering songs like stilleto, honesty, Zanzibar, half a Mile away, Rosalinda’s eyes all from this album beyond his hits of big shot and my life from 52nd street. He has one more song from this LP that he almost never performs but will blow you away. It’s one of his best songs ever I feel (from 100’s of top songs). It’s called “Until the Night”. Do a reaction to his live performance from Long Island and most will see how talented musicians rarely band together these days to form an incredible group. And the song is just incredible genius too. Keep up the great reactions from this 305 area code born and raised kid.

It's heartening to see the love and respect you have for each other--respectful disagreement based on good rationale on both sides. One of the best examples of this between you was when you reacted to The Weight by the Band and The Staples and Che says the Levon Helms' drums were set up just like his--and said to La, I know you might not notice how my drums are set up, but La says immediately that he notices (my dear friend!--but without those words added). Nothing better on reaction channels than authenticity combined with thoughtfulness and kindness. As we used to say when I was young--keep on keepin' on.

It's been a very long time since I've listened to this song, and I've learned a bit about jazz in that interval. I now realize that what Joel is doing with his left hand, particularly in the bridge, is what's called stride piano, where the left hand does the work of the bass. This is a style of jazz piano that arose in the 1920s, I think, practiced by James P. Johnson, Art Tatum and Fats Waller. But when I bought this album back in 1978, I had no idea clue what stride piano was.
