I was THERE in Rome, Italy when Billy Joel performed near the Colosseum. I did a Colosseum tour earlier that day. And we were rushed because they were getting ready for Billy Joel concert. He was rehearsing before the concert event took place. So, of course, we stayed for the BIlly Joel concert since we were already there. It seemed all of Rome was there. It was like full circle. Because when I was a young girl, I had to perform to "Uptown Girl" for stage dance recital in front of many. :-)

I saw the vid of the fast-paced performance of the song at Wembley in 1984. Personally I like this one the best. He's not as rushed or zany. He's more in control, relaxed. He's CLIMBED the mountain so why overtax himself? Great job, Billy!

Not that you're wrong, but I don't think you could call Sammy Hagar or Dave Lee Roth 'contemporaries' of Billy- leaving aside the whole genre thing, Piano Man was out in 1973, a good 10 years before anyone cared who those guys were. Like you say, Billy's done a good job of taking care of his voice, and songs as good as this don't age at all.
