Lyrics:
You're having a hard time and lately you don't feel so good
You're getting a bad reputation in your neighborhood
It's alright, it's alright
Sometimes that's what it takes
You're only human, you're allowed to make your share of mistakes
You better believe there will be times in your life
When you'll be feeling like a stumbling fool
So take it from me you'll learn more from you accidents
Than anything you could ever learn at school

Joel, who had once attempted suicide himself, stated in a 1985 interview, that he wrote the song as a way to help young people struggling with depression and thoughts of suicide. In his original draft, he was concerned that the song sounded too depressing so he re-wrote it with a bouncy, joyous beat and melody with lyrics that stressed personal forgiveness and optimism about life. Joel donated all the royalties from the song to the National Committee for Youth Suicide Prevention.

that what I say to my mates every time we fail a Death sentece / one down heist in payday 2, the swarm tactics in payday 2 can be pretty effectives( in high difficulties against a unorganized team ) but they usually end up in a pyrrhic victory, dozens of cops and trained specialist are dead, and many of the sweet taxpayer money is wasted just for 4 guys is a victory but a costly one

Early October 1985, I was a college freshman having a nervous breakdown, extremely depressed and suicidal. I was standing on a bridge high above the Mississippi River one afternoon, staring at the water, and waiting for people to be far enough away to stop me from jumping. I had my knock-off Walkman on, playing a local radio station, and at that instant and Your Only Human/Second Wind came on, playing into my ears over my headphones. I immediately, focused on the music the words Billy was singing about not giving up on life. I listened to the entire song and I didn't jump. Today, I'm 57 years old, Billy's music has carried me though my entire life. His music is the soundtrack of my soul. Thank you, Billy, for the new songs, thank you for the old songs. Thank you for sharing immense talent with us. And thank you for saving me

In '85, Billy released this; Greatest Hits Volume I & Volume II!, his most accomplished album. I think his undisputed masterpiece is "You're only human". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about self forgiveness and the fact that you matter. It's also a personal statement from Billy Joel himself. - Patrick Bateman.

This song saved my life. I had lost someone close to me, and I fallen in with some dangerous people which led to me ruining an important relationship. I found my life ruined, and was being mistreated by my group, I was ready to completely give up. But I remembered this song, my mom (who had left us when I was young) had played Billy Joel a lot when I was younger, so his music was always important to me. It reminded me to hold on, because i knew that my second wind would come, and it did. I now have successful job in politics, making a difference, and I am with the woman I love. I've been listening to this song since I was ten. It feels like a friend that is always there for me in bad times and it seems that I'm not the only one. I hope Billy Joel knows the effect this song has on people. It might not be his best ever song, but it is probably his greatest achievement.

When I was around 17 in 2011 I'd been going through a really bad time because of a bully who mentally picked on me and a teacher who wouldn't listen at all to my words. If I ever meet Billy Joel I would say "thank you" for saving my live as it was because of this song and "Honesty" from 52nd Street that helped me get through those tough times. I absolutely love how Billy plays a snippet of his famous song "Piano Man" to introduce himself to the guy as that song is one of my all time favorite songs.

The fact that you are thinking about it means your getting closer to Gods promise. If you do it you will never experience the gift of lifes beauties. So stop it now!!! You will be rewarded. Here's a guy right here that loves you. Dont have to know you. Its the way God made me. We can talk here. I will try with all my might to help you get to your promise and reward. They had grown up together both sat next to each other crammed in the back of the bus, only to watch one go to the Moon while the other remained on Earth. I wonder if that event also played a factor in writing this song?

I was out of work for a month and really depressed. I was driving from one interview to another and reduced to eating peanut butter sandwiches every day. This particular day I was really depressed and feeling like giving up. As I was driving this song came on. The words hit home and perked me up for my next interview. A couple of days later I landed a job. I credit Billy Joel with turning me around at the lowest moment of my life thus far. There have been other setbacks in my life since. billy joel songs are such a comfort to me. this song in particular is so incredibly special. i've struggled with severe depression and suicidal thoughts for the last 7 years. i've attempted 4 times, been in and out of mental hospitals. i discovered this song in a very depressive episode in my life. i was dealing with my abusive mother, i had just lost all of my friends, and i felt so alone and like if i was gone it wouldn't really mean anything to anyone. i had planned that night to take a bunch of sleeping pills, but then i came across this song. i watched this music video over and over again, it made me feel so seen. it was exactly what i needed to hear at that point in time. i became obsessed with billy joel, buying albums, listening to his songs 24/7. he's an artist that holds such a special place in my heart. i wish i could thank him, i wish i could tell him how much his music has saved me, and how it comforted me in times when i needed it. i'm still struggling, but at least i know if nobody's got me, billy joel's got me.

These comments of how this song saved their life also becoming a happier and better person really lifted my spirits.

I've been "up on that bridge" a few times in my 40 years. Only recently have I been able to get things back together again and start having hope for the future. This song from when I was a kid once didn't mean anything to me, but now it means everything to me.

I loved this song when I was a kid, having no clue what it was about. Now that I know the story behind it, I think it's amazing for him to turn his personal pain and talent into something to encourage others to not give up. Thank you Billy :)

When Billy Joel was younger he drank furniture polish to try to Commit Suicide himself but then his friend found him on the floor and took him to the hospital before it kicked him which saved Billy's life the hospital he wrote this song to teach teens/People that suicide is never the answer.

From my understanding, there was also a bottle of bleach next to the furniture polish, but Billy chose the polish because he though the bleach would have tasted bad.

It's crazy how heavy this is for such an upbeat song

Is it significant at all that Hughies favorite artist is Billy Joel, and he's saved by a guy named Billy?
