I've been doing the reverse bleed for decades and I try to tell people but they dont seem to want to listen and make all sorts of pressure caps etc including work shops. Its amusing to say the least when a mate after spending a fortune to get their fxr twin disc to work still keeps going back. More fool them I say lol.

Love that bike. Odd, the bleeder valve is located at the bottom of the caliper, rather than the top?

Another great instructional video Billy! I hadn't thought about #3 as a bleeding technique but you spot on with that. I bet the displacement of the dual pucks in the PM caliper is greater than the master cylinder plunger which means it's even quicker than the traditional method. Thanks for posting this!

I love watching these clips, especially when I'm sourcing PM brakes for the Heritage Springer i just picked up. I need to get the Fatboy sold soon. I have a few hours before Cyclesource shop talk tonight. If ya happen to have a black PM rear brake caliper setup for an 2005 springer softail, LMK. I'll buy it. I found the front one, the rear resevior and controls and just ordered a PM clutch actuator. Hope ya get to see it in March at Sons. Have a Merry Christmas !

Nice and simple. Ever use the reverse bleed technique? Empty the master and use a pump oil can to push the Dot 5 up the line through the bleeder into the master cylinder. Used to be the only way to get a clutch pedal in some of the newer vw’s I worked on.

Solid tips. Another tip is to just flush all that dirty fluid while you’re bleeding the circuit. From the sound of that master cylinder piston friction, the fluid is either super contaminated or the seals are close to failing.

I used to have this marinade injector with a piece of line and a rubber nipple on to force fluid up through the banjo to the reservoir. Worked better than the blue point bleeder I had that could push fluid. The dot5 would smoke the seal on the plunger after a while tho. Nice trick on using the pads to push. I like that.

That's a good looking and sounding Fatboy. I thought mine was the best I've ever heard until I heard yours. I've got a 98'. How many inches did that Coddington swing arm lower the rear? It's dead on for sure. I've never liked how the stock ride height did t allow for proper fender/tire alignment. I've also noticed that when some one lowers one w just shocks it throws that hard tail look way out. The straight line from the neck to the rear axle is totally f'd up. Any suggestions on how to drop the rear without the bike looking like rigid w a bent up frame?
@BillyLaneChoppers
@BillyLaneChoppers 16 күн бұрын
The Boyd's swingarm is a work of art. It does not lower the bike, however. This FatBoy is lowered 2.5 inches in the rear through shock links. The clean lines of the aluminum swingarm just change the appearance of the rear section.

I got very familiar with handling calipers when I changed the forks on my 2004 Triumph Spring RS, replacing them with 2007 Suzuki Hayabusa forks. I had to rebuild the Suzuki 6 piston calipers. While trying to get the pistons out, I ruined the titanium pistons, and had to replace with steel.

Billy have you considered putting dual disc up front? I have a fatboy and realized that cover on the right side of the wheel comes off and you can add dual disc obviously you need to change lower. Or is that P.M. caliper enough you don't need dual disc?
@BillyLaneChoppers
@BillyLaneChoppers 16 күн бұрын
The single P-M works amazingly well. The stock H-D caliper acts sort-of binary. The P-M offers feel and brake moderation that the stock caliper does not. I think dual disc would be too much for a motorcycle this light

@BillyLaneChoppers that's exactly what I need on my 1994 Fatboy. It's pretty nasty too and the 113" El Bruto with HSR-45 matched 2:03 gearing makes it a Rocket ship. Is there a reason the dual piston-caliper is fixed and not a floating caliper?
@BillyLaneChoppers
@BillyLaneChoppers 16 күн бұрын
My P-M is four-piston, with two pistons on each side of the rotor. Hydraulically, if the caliper is properly spaced, all four pistons will function equally. The stock caliper only has one piston applying pressure to the outside brake pad. Therefore, the stock, single-piston caliper must float so that the outside pressure may transfer itself to the inside brake pad.
