I tell people younger than me that the 80's was my favorite decade. So much was going on back then from then, high school graduation, Hip Hop beginnings, block party's, car's with the booming system riding by, candy paint cars, concerts, after party's, night clubs, Showtime Lakers, young Micheal Jordan, Miami Vice, great music like Billy Ocean's - Caribbean Queen, etc.

I love to see younger people "discover" the best decade of music that I was fortunate to be growing up in with the 1980s. I graduated high school in 1989, so these wear the 45 records that were $1 to buy and spending my weekly allowance of $5-10 every week. Billy, being from the beautiful island nation of Trinidad & Tobago, had that smooth sound and I think you'll love "Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car." This song told us that he was going to have a long, successful career, as it was his debut song here in the US and it went all the way to #1 for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.

this is one of those songs that made the 80's THE 80's. i was in Los Angeles at the time and it was everywhere!!! major radio hit. and can you hear the Billie Jean influence? this was one year and a few months after Billie Jean was released.

Billy Ocean is a stage name. His real name is Leslie Seabastian Charles. He has been a performer since the 70’s. He didn’t really blow up in the US until the release of this song. With 3 number ones, several top 20 singles, and a handful of awards, he was one of the biggest acts of the 80’s. Believe it or not there are several different versions of this song. African Queen, European Queen, and Caribbean Queen. Interestingly, European Queen was released in the UK but flopped badly. Caribbean Queen, however, became a UK top 10 hit. African Queen is probably the most obscure version, but you can find all versions on KZbin. Billy is also a great songwriter. He wrote a few songs for other artists. He vocally coached either Phil Collins or Paul McCartney (can’t remember which) for a short time. He’s still performing and going on tour this summer. He has 3 lungs (a medical condition). It’s no surprise this man can blow. 😂 Great reaction, Jack. Billy is one of the all time greats and one of my favorite artists.
