Billy deserves all the accolades he gets. Also, lets appreciate, that the Beatles broke up over 50 years ago, and are still important today

Recognizing Billy was a classy move, but can you imagine the cultural impact if they would have invited him to join the band…

John Lennon wanted to. Paul McCartney vetoed the idea because he thought tensions were bad enough with the group that he didn't think adding a fifth person would improve the situation.

To describe Billy Preston's solo on Get Back with one word................Perfect.

His addition made the music notably more appealing. You can tell by watching the “get back’ video series.

The reason some guest musicians are not credited is because they are signed to a different record company and sometimes, they can't get permission from the record company to have their artist appear on your album. Also, the record company may demand ridiculous payments for their artist to appear. It was a common practice that musicians appear on their friends records without credit or use a pseudonym. Members of The Beatles have appeared on other artists albums without being credited. For example, Lennon & McCartney sang background vocals on a song by The Rolling Stones and George Harrison played guitar on Cream's (Eric Clapton's band) "Badge" without being credited.

First thing I thought was..."man, is he related to Billy P.?" Second..."black people were in Europe LONG BEFORE in the Americas". WTBS I believe that the continent of Africa holds the origins of ALL MODERN HUMAN LIFE; and it follows (in my mind) that MUSIC ALSO began there. Love your content.

Billy playing with the band allowed for 3 guitars and keyboards for live performances which were recorded and were used on the album. Legend

The problem with crediting other musicians on record releases, especially back in the day, arose from contractual issues. If the musician is signed to a recording label and performs with another band on a totally different label and this performance is officially released, then the artist could be in breach of contract. I believe this is one of the reasons why Clapton was uncredited for While My Guitar Gently Weeps. There are lots of other examples, including Lennon and McCartney doing backing vocals on the Rolling Stones single We Love You along with the B-side Dandelion. I believe they were uncredited for that, too! Stay safe 🤘 ✌️

When I watch The Beatles rooftop performances I'm always looking for Billy Preston in the background He should have had a camera on him solo singly just like pollen John and George.

Was a big fan of Billy Preston. Loved his music and always made me happy. Funny Nat King Coles music does the same thing to me. Listen to Nat Kinds Cole song Smile

One Nat King Cole track you definitely want to check out is "Straighten Up & Fly Right," which he also wrote. It’s an early number from his days with the King Cole Trio. He was such a good pianist nobody complained when he didn't sing (he sings on this one, tho).

It wasn't the musicians, it was the record companies not allowing it.

Credits on records were not the normal thing in the 1960s . It was not only a Beatles issue. All Pop music out of l.a. in the 60s had un credited session musicians. Including the beach boys. Who used other musicians to play there instruments. All Motown songs for example

Love this video. Even I'm learning a lot. Gotta say the tv is a bit of a distraction tho. I liked when you made the video bigger when it played. ☮️💜

Earlier in the '60s on the ABC-TV series, "Shindig!," Billy Preston was part of the Shindig house band. Oh, and when you do dive into Nat "King" Cole, you might want to start with his awesome rendition of the song "L-O-V-E." And his version of "Smile," written by silent film superstar Charlie Chaplin, is one of the very best. By the way, this video includes a lot of people TALKING about Billy Preston with the Beatles, but no real performance footage. Go check out The Beatles song "Get Back." That's the one where Billy Preseton is featured on the electric piano. And it was through that performance that many of us started referring to Billy Preston as "the fifth Beatle." kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJSofH-Coph3a7ssi=Uf8C7V6btvW9dCVt (Not exactly the single, but a lot of fun to watch.)

Genius recognizes one another. If the Fab 4 were so-so then why did Mr. Preston take them seriously.

There are many strong connections (including McCartney's "stealing" his idol Little Richard's WOOO). The Rolling Stones, for example, were heavily influenced by what they'd heard from blues artists like Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf, who went to Europe when their American careers cooled. They, in turn, found their fortunes improve when American kids learned about them through the British bands.

British musicians idolized American, Black, musicians. That influence goes back, before the Beatles. The Stones, Yardbirds, Dusty Springfield and many others, were heavily influenced by American Blues and R&B. I don't think Black artists went to England to influence those musicians rather, the public caught on to the fact that their favorite artists were, essentially, doing their own version of American R&B and Blues. So, there became a growing demand for the real thing. And, these artists realized that there was money to be made, so they went! Why not?

Marketability is the key word here. Though black artists were the backbone of Rock 'n Roll, white counterparts were given center stage to mainstream audiences. Meanwhile, black artists were pretty much pigeonholed as R&B. Before that, it was called "race" music and marketed to black audiences. If white teens in the 40s and 50s wanted to listen to black artists, they had to be sneaky about it.
