My dad learned guitar, and although he never really became proficient at it, he taught me how to play. I’ve become somewhat more proficient than my dad, but have never gotten really good. I introduced my son to guitar several years ago, and he learned to play about as well as I do. Mostly strumming folk and bluegrass. Then about six months ago, my son started focusing on bluegrass, Doc Watson, Tony Rice, etc., and he stumbled on Billy Strings Dust in a Baggy. He was over yesterday so we could work on his car and his motorcycle. After we got done he pulled out my guitar and started jamming on Brown’s Ferry Blues, and danged if he hasn’t just about got it down! I was amazed at how well he’s developed his speed and precision. Not as good as Billy does in the video, but he’s getting close. Probably a few more weeks of practice and he’ll have it nailed. I’ve told my son a number of times how I wish my dad was still alive to see him play. His pap would’ve been bowled over seeing his grandson playing the songs my dad loved with such proficiency, not to mention seeing a young feller (22 years old) appreciate the songs my dad raised me on. Talking about gratifying!

One thing I really love about Billy Strings is just how humble he really is. He certainly remembers his roots and is so wonderful with his fans and other musicians. Knowing how guitar music had influenced his life so much and in such a positive way, Billy recently bought each and every current student from his old school a guitar in the hopes that the guitar would influence their lives in a positive manner also. Billy and his band are taking Bluegrass and country to a new level, and I truly believe that one day, Billie Strings will belong to the ages with Doc Watson
@PremiumKibble2 жыл бұрын
Well said! That humility comes from genuine love of the musical tradition, and gratitude for their gifts. Doc and Billy were both cut from that cloth.

My grandfather and a business partner bought the Browns Ferry Farm in Limestone County, Alabama in the 1920s, and Alton Delmore farmed part of the land for him in the late 1920s or early 1930s. I guess that inspired him to write this song. The farm was right on the Tennessee River. That was before Wheeler Dam was built, and the lake took part of the farm. TVA's Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant now occupies part of the property.
