This is a wonderfully smooth and gentle delivery by Billy Walker. The song seems so sweet but Willie Nelson's lyrics have a large slice of bitterness to them. This is classy country music of the highest order.

This is a very favorite of mine...he sang it at all his shows Willie Nelson was a buddy of his. So was Marty Robbins and he never failed to sing Marty's LORD YOU GAVE ME A MOUNTAIN. I had the privilege of knowing Mr. Walker because I was a college friend of his daughter Deanna's. One time he took me to the Ryman and let me sit onstage on the musicians bench during the Saturday Night Opry in May, 1971. He also took me to church with him one Sunday morning because we were both Penecostal. He was a sweet, loving Christian who did all he could for his fellow man and we lost him Much too soon.

What a wonderful classic. There was so much great music from that era that will live forever. I just do not believe that 50 years from now todays music will be as loved as this early 60's music is now. I guess I won't be here to find out, ha......Terry
@DUCKDUCKGOISMUCHBETTER7 жыл бұрын
Terry Harrison Are you kidding me. Today's so-called "Country" so-called "music" will be more forgotten (and deservedly so) ten years from now than the 50s through the 70s "real" Country Music will be, come 50 years from now. People will be still listening to and enjoying Hank Williams through Waylon Jennings and George Strait. But they'll be like, "What's a Brooks and Dunn...some kind of suit?"

Interesting use of a " Yancey Bass line" throughout in a song with tricky meters in the verses. This show made extensive use of the beyond rare Sennheiser DM4 microphone which was a full range unit with the element in the base of the microphone. Every singer on this series sonically benefited from the choice of this unit. A rare instance of a show really committed to good live audio, a rarity in television until relatively recent times. The DM4 is an integral unit in that the base and stand are one with what appears to be the element in the usual spot near the sound source simply the end of a hollow adjustable tube that carries the sound down to the base. Real tube preamps are required to produce the best results with this microphone. Other clips from this series with Patsy Cline also use this same microphone giving her voice a transparency not always on her records. Sennheiser has no information on their site regarding this model. It was made from about 1954 to 1957 and was used on NBC shows in the mid fifties, They turn up later here in 1963 and again in mid sixties ABC Hollywood Television Center based productions, notably "Shindig" and some 1966-67 "American Bandstand" episodes as a podium microphone.
