I know better than to listen to these wonderful songs. It nearly kills me because it makes me long for those days so much. When I was young, I didn't realize I was young. Now that I am at the other end of life, it really hurts to think back. Love you Billy Joe

@Bill Stokes You too? I'm 65 and can remember Billy Joe Royal's songs really well. My late sister Susan (Susie) used to tickle me until I'd sing these songs for her and her girlfriends, Down in the boondocks, Hey Everybody, by Tommy Roe, and many many more as I could do them so well you'd of thought I had a secret recorder hidden somewhere, still can belt them out on occasion. Still having tears remembering his songs.

@@velikovskysghost Aint it funny how time slips away?
@velikovskysghost2 жыл бұрын
@@nogoglobal Yes it is funny. Funny thing about it is I don't think we are supposed to age so fast, and in fact I have many ideas using soft experiments that may help slow down the process and in some cases even reverse the aging processes. Billy Joe Royal's "Down in the Boondocks" was my song when I was 11,12,13,14 and 15, I can still do his voice to a tee, along with so many others, including Elvis, and thought those times would never end.

This makes me cry every time I play it. I got to see Billy Joe Royal at open concert in Alabama back in the 70's. The video takes me back to what school, the cars, and all the memories and it makes me wish I could go back to the 50's when life was so different as a young teenager.

When I was just a kid around 10 or 11 I could sing Billy Joe Royal songs like I had a hidden tape recorder up my sleeve. My late sister Susan (Susie) used to tickle me until I'd sing them for her and her girlfriends, still can do one of my all time Billy Joe Royal songs, (Down in the Boondocks) but not without a few tears. I couldn't be anymore ashamed to admit that it wasn't until after his going forward that I became the fan of him that I will never stop being now, I love him so much, so anything that you can share with me about your getting to see him will be so very much appreciated. God bless you and his family always!!! Holly in East Tennessee P.S. So far, I have purchased 18 CDs and 3 records of his singing and the VHS containing 6 of his videos as well as the black shirt with an awesome shot of him on the front of it with the album name Out Of The Shadows going down its left side. My next objective is to get the 27 songs that I know that I still don't have yet because they apparently were only made available on the B side of his single records when they were released. How else can you tell someone who isn't here anymore that you love them?

Last Friday, May 4, 2018, I went to an All Class Reunion for Jenkintown High School, in the NW subs of Philly. It seems like I spent the better part of the evening saying hello to people that I had not seen in over 50 years. There was one particular girl, an old neighbor, that I had not seen in 51 years. So this song is very appropriate to the occasion.

I just learned that Willie Nelson wrote this song. Billy Joe Royal was one of my favorite singers in the 1960s, when I was in high school. He came to Redding, California in, I think, 2000. I had to see him in person, more than 30 years since I used to play his records over and over and over, driving one of my sisters crazy. I'm sad to learn that he left this word in 2015.

I knew Billy Joe in Savannah when I dropped out of Georgia for 9 months to work. He and Joe South packed The Bamboo Ranch every night. He married a friend of mine. We all told her it wouldn't last. She was nuts over Billy Joe. The marriage didn't last long. It was a tough go for her. However, Billy Joe had a beautiful voice. He did have a few hits nationally. I hear him on the 60's radio station occasionally.

+Kenny Youmans Hey! I really do not mean to pry here, but I can't help but wonder because it is such a mystery to me right now. I have read that Billy Joe was married a total of three times and every one of the marriages ended in divorce. If that is all true, do you have any idea what the heck happened? I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that about him! Out of everything that I have seen of him so far, his chats, his clips etc, the beautiful precious doesn't strike me as the cheating kind, but as a dude who couldn't have been more of a gentleman. What in the world happened? God bless you and his family always!!! Holly in East Tennessee

I know that in a lot of ways, its better late than never, but the more that I watch and listen to this beautiful precious, the more ashamed of myself it is that I grow for my not getting into him sooner, I love him so much now and now its too late to tell him that to his face and I hate it. Y'all who got to spend whatever time with him it is that you got to spend with him, I pray that you treasure that time because having the ability to be in such a group of people is something that I would give anything to have now that I know how much it is that I missed out on. (trying not to cry again) God bless you and his family always!!! Holly in East Tennessee

Holly, like I said before in another video....I love you girl. I love your passion for him. I have loved him all my life, since the 60's. I was one of those lucky people that loved him when I was young and had an older brother that introduced me to music I wouldn't have know if not for him. I am a music FANATIC so I think I know how you feel a little bit. Billy Joe was awesome. You have good taste. His voice was like no other. It's amazing that I am liking somebody I have never met just because we have the same LOVE for this person. You have never met him and you love him. I fell in love with his voice before I even knew who he was or what he looked like. Remember this was the middle 60's, we had three tv channels and if you wanted to see what someone on the radio looked like you had to have the album, not just the 45 (record). SO we heard a lot of music on radio and never knew what they looked like until they were on tv.
