On Spain's eastern coast, the Mediterranean, that's almost impossible to do. You have no idea how good your fishing is in Norway, I went there once and in 10 minutes on a rod that was 50 years old and a reel that hadn't had a line change in over a decade I caught two huge cods only 30m off the shore, that was literally my best fishing experience ever and I've fished for many years in Spain where we have tuna fish and mahi mahi - we just don't have a lot. If I lived in Norway I would eat fish 6 days a week, and catch it all myself.

Hi bud. Yes I do know how good the fishing is in Norway. A fish in the Mediterranean and lots of other places around Europe and the world. Norway is a cold version of Florida! Yes! Times are hard around the mediterranean right now, but still it is possible to catch some fantastic fish. Thanks Brother, see you on the beach 👍😁👌

“You could entertain yourself like this as a kid”. That’s exactly what my brother and I did. We each got a set of green fiberglass fishing rods for Christmas when I was about 7 years old and boy did we fish! Our special place was a low bridge. We fished enough miniature Coleys to fill a plastic shopping bag at a minimum, sometimes more. When we got home, mom used to say “Wow, you did good. I’ll clean them up later”. Getting older I started to think about this. I could not remember eating a lot of Coleys, and after bedtime my brother and I heard a lot of seagulls quarreling nearby. Hmmmm…. I wonder where the fish went? But at least she didn’t take away the joy and excitement we got from fishing 🎣 ❤ Keep on fishing and making these fantastic videos brother 👍

Good times Bjorg😁👌 Oh, to be a boy again. I had a similar experience once. It was my first fish, a mackerel of course. Being too young to understand death and life, I held him close to my body all day as my new pet. Returned home from a long days fishing. lay pet beside me on my bed, I went to sleep. In the morning, I asked about my new pet. And my mother told me it has swam away. Now shut up and eat your breakfast, be too young to understand life and death, I ate my breakfast, mackerel 🤣👌 Thanks Brother, see you on the beach 👍😁👌

I live in Maine, we also catch harbor pollock, and use them for bait. Unfortunately, we have to take them to use a boat to then catch most other species of fish. Norway has placed its culture and its people before industry. You’ve done a perfect job managing your fishery.
@Billyfishing_watch11 ай бұрын
Hi Scott. The Norwegians do take good care of their fisheries, but that's not the real reason why the fishing is so good. It is all down to the continental shelf and plankton density - and Norways proximity to it. Either way, the fishing is amazing. Thanks brother 😁👌

Brilliant video Billy, I've always been very sensitive to how fish are treated wether they are taken or released, Your videos are a statement to other you-tubers on how fish should be treated, I have always killed fish immediately if I was taken them, however I used to knock them on the head, since I began to watch your videos you have shown me a much better and humane way of dispatching fish via the spiking method which I use every time I keep a fish. I have seen videos where fish are allowed to slowly die while the moron that caught it grins stupidly into the camera. Thanks for the great videos Billy and thank you for helping me become a more ethical angler. Stay safe out there fella. Regards Steve

@Billyfishing_watch Жыл бұрын
Hi John. I'm really glad you like the video and your comment is much appreciated. As you can probably tell the rig is a very simple affair. The design is the same as a bog standard paternoster rig, where the hook snood is longer than the rig body. Then swap them around, the rig body becomes the hook snood and vice versa. Then the hook hangs on the bait clip, picking up the rig body and leaving plenty of slack for the bait. That's it, simple and effective. Thanks brother, see you on the beach 😁👌

@@Billyfishing_watch Hey Billy, mostly lures but will also throw live eels too. I love fishing metal lipped swimmers for surface strikes, nothing like seeing a big bass smash through the surface to take a piece of painted wood, LOL 😝 . I can’t believe how close to shore you’re able to fish for halibut and cod. The old timers who fished back in the 50’s and 60’s out at Montauk, NY told stories of catching cod and pollack off the beach in December and January with lures. If we want cod now it’s strictly boat fishing waaay offshore and honestly the fishery for the most part has collapsed 😢. Again thanks for the videos, keep it going!

15:21 I've seen a lot of people in Europe do this when fishing for rays, sharks, and now halibut. How much more effective is this than just taking the fish, sticking the hook though the head, and casting it out? Seems like a lot more work and I'm wondering if it's worth it.
@Billyfishing_watch11 ай бұрын
Hi Nomad. You must be referring to the Dingle dangle. In order to cast a bait fished correctly on a circle hook it needs to be below the hook. The South Africans invented this device the Dingle dangle so you can do that. There is a little hook on the sinker where the bait is clipped down, and this allows you to get extra distance, thanks brother 😁👌

Hi there Billy. A merry Christmas to you. I've just stumbled across your channel and it's fantastic. When I was younger I'd go fishing every August with my uncle in Galway for mackerel. I think that's where I caught the fishing bug. I did some pike and carp fishing when back home in the UK. For a little while I lived in Thailand and got to caught big and powerful fish out there. I was spoiled for the fish I could catch. A few years later I did some shark fishing in Florida a couple of times. Catching shark up to 11 feet off the beach. On one trip I think my bait was picked up by a hammerhead. The reel started spinning like it was attached to a bus. Even with the full 40lbs of drag it didn't slow down. Unfortunately the 150lb line broke. It's great to see someone like yourself fishing for big fish in a place like Norway. Some of the powerful reels I hot for Thai fish and sharks are popular with the Halibut anglers. Its something I'd like to try some day but I'm not a fan of cold weather. I'd rather fish somewhere hot. I now have my daughter Jessica and I hope to show her some of the Thai and Florida fishing in the future. Anyway, looking forward to seeing more of your content. Best of luck to you and your channel. See you on the beach!

Not sure if you have heard of butterfly baits.. I often use use a butterfly bait for big snapper and hapuka here in NZ. Basically, take your bait fish and fillet from the tail towards the head on both sides leaving the fillets and guts well attached, then snap out the backbone. You get all the scent plus a nice flutter from the fillets with a bit of current or even small fish knocking it about. Pretty sure it would work on your rig / trace.

Hi Chris. Latex is the best, for two reasons! It is biodegradable, and it's elasticity. Which holds the bait snugly. Characteristics you look for are, how thin it needs to be. Or how thick. big baits need thick elastic, I'm delicate baits need thin elastic. Thanks Brother 😁👍

At 9:18 the ship in the background... that's a hanseatic from Hapag Lloyd Cruises. I was in norway from oktober till Dezember working on that ship. I absolutely love fishing and always tried to catch a halibut in norway. Unfortunately only caught cods. Which City was your fishing spot close by?

Two times a mate and i took a roadtrip from Sweden and then drove along the Norwegian coast. We decided to only allow us to eat if we catched something. No fish - no potatoes, vegetables or beer once we were in Norway. Went to bed every day in Norway with full bellies and nicely soft in the head. One of the best days ever was in Geiranger.

Cool fishing mate. Ive been to norway quite a few times. Mainly up north fishing for coalfish in the summer with big poppers and jerkbaits in the tidal changes. Biggest ones are 40lb+ and they fight like demons :) Keep making videos man!

That's excellent advice regarding casting too far. I'm really bad for launching it to the horizon, when all the fish are hunting in the breakers in my local beach. PB Bass was about twenty yards out lol.
@Billyfishing_watch Жыл бұрын
Yep! It's hard to stop casting too far, party because we enjoy the feeling. And when the fishing is slow, it's always fun to practice. Thanks Brother 👍😁
