I switched to using Florissant tape on my rod tips and using a black/UV light on my tripod to light up the rods a while ago as its just a lot less intrusive on your eyes than white torch light and its amazing how much stuff you can see glowing on the beach and rock piles in the water

This was REALLY interesting, Billy, and VERY valuable. I thought that I had to put special UV-reflective paints on my deep-water jigs, but you showed us otherwise and thereby saved me significant money. THANK YOU. Though it's none of my business, when do you plan to leave for The Land of the Red Gods (Norway)? I'm having a hard time waiting to see you once again challenging the fjords for their big cod, pollack, and-of course-halibut. All the best, Chris (Maine, USA)

Many years ago I used to fish lures for pike, not alway successfully, but I used to enjoy it, especially fishing at night at my local ponds. An old boy told me to switch my lures from the bright flashy lures at night to just black! Ok, at the time, it was difficult to find black pluds and lures, so a black spray can came out. I sprayed a few cheaper/beaten up plugs and, at night, was way more successful. The old boys reasoning was that the black lures create a bigger "shadow" at night and along with the movement, really works better than non black lures. It worked for me at the time. No colour, no flash just "shadow".
@Billyfishing_watch5 ай бұрын
It's true! In the absence of light, black is the best way to go. A lot of the guys I know fly fish for sea trout in the night, and they all use black flys. Thanks Brother 😁👌
@akwamarsunzal5 ай бұрын
@@Billyfishing_watch The is very true! My uncle used to use large-ish black flies at night for sea trout in Wales. He used to pick up some nice salmon with that method too!

Hi Billy I'm really glad to see that you are safe and well mate.. What more can I say about your videos other than brilliant they are always interesting and informative.. As for fishing lures over the years I got used to carrying a assortment of lures in my bag.. colour of the water . light levels all come into play when choosing what lures to use.. Your advice is always right on the button.for this alone you have to be commended.. Artificial lures are expensive ..so any sound advice on these is a bonus for many. Unfortunately billy there are many tackle shops that give people advice on what lures they need .. when in fact they are completely useless .I don't no if it's because they have to get rid of old stock..and sell them to people who don't know any better..I have stopped going to these tackle shops because of this issue This is why channels like yours are invaluable to many people. Anyway Billy keep yourself safe and well mate..

@Billyfishing_watch European Sea Bass. Caught a stonker last year fishing for Flatties, rod doubled over and wrestled her out. Bled it like you said to try and it was delicious. This year the targets are a Dogfish, and a Bass on lures. Don't get many doggies up my way so want to chalk one up.

@Billyfishing_watch my area has a sandy bay, and then miles of rocky shore so there is a mixture of habitat to be had. Plus the cliffs and duper water up the coast. Its shallow round my way at low, but can always head over to the West Coast sea lochs for Dogs, Spurs etc. Got a car I can camp in now so off I go lol.

I tried fishing in small harbour in Gibostad, Senja 2 days ago but without much luck. Thanks man. I really appreciate it. Cheers. Ivan Lai.

Hi bud. I have never fished there before, what is Arctic Norway there should be plenty of fish! If it is cold and windy the fish don't like to bite very often. So find a sheltered bay and it might change your lock. Keep the lure close to the bottom, and keep casting. Also had further out to the open sea, there is more oxygen and more fish. Thanks Brother 😁👌
@ivanlai70155 ай бұрын
@@Billyfishing_watch thanks for the piece of advice again bro Billy. Hopefully I will be lucky enough to experience the excitement of a cod hooked to the rod. Cheers Ivan.

Do you think the lure can have too much UV? The paddle tail would have the head and to a lesser degree the tail and then between just hints of flash - life I wonder if a solid block works against us. I'm fly fishing i always prefer a mix of shades of colour to just one
@Billyfishing_watch5 ай бұрын
I suppose that would depend on the time of day and weather conditions. I have some lures that have UV heads and bodies, and I generally push them in very deep water and in the evening as the light is going. They seem to do very well in those situations. But they were not designed intentionally to do that! Just cheap lures I picked up. Thanks Brother 😁👌

Hi Billy. Have you any thoughts on lighting up luminous lures with a torch? Must check, but I believe I have UV lures with luminous paint on them too. I wonder does luminiusm have a similar effect as UV. I know when lighting up luminous lures in times past it did not appear to produce an extra fish. I appreciate that sunlight on luminous lures will light them up in deep water. Would love to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks for the video content.
@Billyfishing_watch5 ай бұрын
Hi bud. I have fished in complete darkness with luminous jigs, and I used a UV torch to charge them. It works extremely well, much better than a standard torch. And yes, I did catch fish! When fishing in the daytime with them, I found they worked best on sunny days. It is quite weird that they work best in the middle of the day, and I have been thinking about it for quite some time! Theoretically they will glow at any depth, so the fish should be able to find them whenever wherever. But it doesn't seem to work that way. So I believe it has something to do with the color instead. The jigs I use are white and Glow green, and I think if I had one that was a different color maybe, red orange or a deeper green. I think I would have better luck with them. Thanks Brother 😁👌
@conorledwith82405 ай бұрын
@@Billyfishing_watch Thanks for that Billy. I've never lit lures while fishing with a UV torch before , but will have to give it a go now. 👍👍 If I make trout or bass flies I add flash and UV materials, kind of hedging my bets 😂

Billy! I’m visiting Norway and had some great luck catching Pollock in Alesund. Now I’m near Stryn and can’t seem to catch anything.. what should I be trying to catch inland Fjords ?
@Billyfishing_watch5 ай бұрын
Hi bud. It is most likely that you will catch nothing there, because there is little to no oxygen in the water so far into the fjord. You could try bait, maybe there is a ray or something. Personally I would head back out towards the open sea. 👍
