I was the camera crane operator on this. My ears were literally ringing for days! I had to wear a headset and the cameraman was next to the speakers and was yelling commands into my ears. I sure wish the image quality was better but this was one of the first live pay per view telecasts and video cameras weren't that great yet. HBO if I recall. Amazing show!
@smokey93974 жыл бұрын
awesome my friend! Thank you for your magic!
@craiglove4 жыл бұрын
@@smokey9397 Not much magic really. I had a cast on my broken wrist to boot. People in the crowd were trying to jump up and grab the arm while the camera operator (remote) was yelling at me to get lower. Larry (LA) Johnson was the producer and a good friend of Neil's. He actually has a brief Wikipedia page which said he was known for his sweeping camera moves. I had done other shows with him (Dylan/Petty at Shoreline) but never saw a crane on another show. Aside from losing my hearing, it was an amazing evening obviously. Bob was totally hammered on tequila on the other show so that was interesting.

@@alwayslookinround Sorry but I don't. It has been many years, there were about 5 cameras going and I had a broken wrist in a cast while trying to operate the crane. Did we do any other jobs together? Maybe you knew my brother Randy who is a cameraman? I did several jobs with LA Johnson though. RIP Larry. Good guy.

There is an anecdote out there that describes this as the song in which Neil Young does the second best guitar solo in the history of rock'n'roll, sings a little bit, then does the best guitar solo of all time. I don’t know about being the best solo, but it’s certainly the most incendiary. He runs, jumps, shakes, headbangs, and almost flies. Beautiful.

I love how at @6:28 he accidentally unplugs his guitar and later, when it gets plugged in again, he slowly fades in again and gets back on track with even more furiosity! I think the accident made this version even more beautiful. Absolute stunner of a performance. The energy is unmatched. Amazing song. Gets me fired up every single time. I will be here for until my dying day.

This song effects my soul. I can't explain it. It seems sad in someway. ❤
@johntechwriter19 күн бұрын
Being moved emotionally is similar to sadness, but is not the same. As an example, take a great B.B. King song. Classic blues, usually about losing in love. And yet we are moved emotionally not to depression, but to a place where we are one with the artist. Great music, whether rock or classical or jazz, etc., is an affirmation of being alive.
