Something I love about this music video is how each of the four mechanics have a unique character to them. You could imagine a sitcom centered around these dudes. From left to right at 00:55... 1) The overconfident, aggressive flirt. Thinks of himself as a ladies man. Always scheming up something to get with the ladies. Bit of a jokester 2) The leader of the bunch. Rightfully confident, probably has the most experience. He has your back, and winds up fixing any troubles the group gets into. Reliable, an all-rounder 3) The new guy. Enthusiastic, but a bit naive. Likes to have fun, and often the first to get roped into any shenanigans. Wears his hat because he thinks he's supposed to. 4) The brains. Calm, the voice of reason. Socially stiff and a little awkward, but is a good guy. Wears his hat because it's professional

I had a brother that was 6 years older than me. This time was when you radio was massive and took a massive space to have it. This was the 80's. My brother got Billy Joels record that was released. The song Up Town Girl was on it. My brother and I took the bus to our two different schools and my brother pleaded after opening his presents if we could stay home and listen. My mother said if we finished getting ready we could listen to one or two songs and then drive us to school. Back than just being able to do this was a present as well. We where the lower side of middle class and i believe after the record i believe he only got one more present that he opened after dinner. I remember being the sister of a protective, loved, and made to feel like a princess by my brother. Him wanting me to be the first to listen to the record made me feel like his best friend. We danced and sang our hearts out. What sweet memories 😍❤️. Love you Tommy.

I believe Billy Joel's lyrics were "white bread world...", not "white-bred world". The first case is understood in American culture as referring to a high society upbringing. "White-bred world" on the other hand, doesn’t fit since it highly suggests racial disparity rather than class division. Had the lyrics been understood as "bred" in the early 1980s, it would have generated a HUGE controversy. Yet that never happened since most people understood Joel as saying "bread".

I heard it when my boyfriend brought the brand new LP to my house for a party. He was so enthralled by it that he'd already memorized every word of the lyrics, and he put it on the stereo and we all, every one of us, danced to every song. And he sang every word to me. It was like a giant music video of our own, and this was before any of us had ever seen any videos from the album. He had dark hair and a beard, and I was, still am, very blonde, so we dressed as Billy and Christie for Halloween that year (we even won a couple of costume prizes) And I married him, two years later. That whole LP was our music. It so fit two broken hearted people who healed in each other's presence.

The setting, the 50s aesthetic mixed with the 80s, to the choreography, all these elements continues to make one of the best music videos from the 80s apart from being a very catchy song to sing in group, in karaoke or in the car, Billy Joel is one of the most talented singer-songwriters ever, also nobody is going to talk about how beautiful Christine Brinkley is? This will aways be one of my favorite songs ver P. D: I want to learn that dance step 2:34 seems like the most cool in all the choreography.

That dance step is too hard for me, but I can do 2:41 that one.

Yeah and the 50s vibe fits with the album because every song was a tribute Billy was doing to one of his favorite artists from the 50s & 60s. This song was the tribute to Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons.

It told a story so well like no other, a masterpiece of music video, and a history of life from the 50's through the 80's. My friend lives across from there and I remember going here many times in the late 90s. Now it's an upscale apartment building. Little by little, the NYC that I remember fades away. Everyone who is commenting is acting braindead. The commenter in question said "I still love the music of that era." Let it go. You can miss something that was made before you unless you never experienced it. E.g., you can't miss food you never ate. In this case, the commenter expressly stated that what he/she misses is the music. So let's insert "I do miss the 80s [style music."
