Apologies if you knew, but @11.07secs, if you'd took that path to the left, it brings you directly into the rear of Speke Hall. I found this out totally by happy accident.

I was thinking the same thing! The WW2 firing range is 2 seconds away from the entrance to Speke hall XD

Great video Kieran. Nice shots of the Runcorn Widnes bridge at the start. I like that don't shy away from the darker aspects of our shared history.

Wow...long way around to get into Speke Hall. You were a minute or two away from the path past the pond which would have brought you directly in front of the hall.

Love it when a video I've missed pops up. Great content Kieran. A map of your journey would be a great addition via a link. I'm sure many would & do replicate said route.

Yes you can go all the way from near Garston Docks to Hale. Search google for openstreetmaps and switch to cycle maps you'll see all of it. Its my favourite map :)

I left Liverpool at the age of 17 to emigrate to Canada. When I left Speke had a bad reputation as being a dangerous place to go as violent gangs caused trouble on a regular basis. Has this changed over the years?
@BimblismUK2 жыл бұрын
It certainly has calmed down i would say. :)

@scouser2230, I used to live in Penketh green in Speke until I left for the states in 1968. It was a rough place then. I went back a few years ago. The park was gone, the shops at The Parade were gone. In fact, there is a Morrisons supermarket on the site where Penketh green used to be. Where did you live? When did you leave?

@@scouser2230 I went to Childwall Valley H.S. and went through Gateacre Village on the 81 bus to get there. Even my high school is gone and has been replaced with a housing estate. ☹️

@@LiverpoolGarden I visited a school mate about five years ago and saw that Gateacre Comp had also been knocked down, and they were in the process of building houses on the site. It’s sad to see that the life of the schools’ of our day were so short. I went in to the Comp when it was first opened, brand new, and we had to attend a different school for the first year until it was built. The building only lasted 59 years, which isn’t very long for a building. I guess in those days they built in obsolescence into such facilities.
