Great video, but I still have an issue. I have all the screws out, and the trim unsnapped. I can slide the headlight out, but there is what feels like a spring on the bottom holding the assembly in place. I can pull it out about 3-4 inches, but if I let go it pulls back in place. I have the adaptive headlights on my 2004 325ci convertible. Is there something else holding the assembly in place if the lights are adaptive?

Seems like your headlights have the water jet used for cleaning the lenses. You need to disconnect the valve from the plastic hose that leads to the windshield washer reservoir.

@@bimmermerchant It was the water jet. I was able to get the headlight assembly out by carefully removing it over the the jet. My actual problem wasn't the bulb, starter, or ballast, but two of the wires going to the starter were broken. Maybe from the heat and vibration. I soldered and everything worked again with the original components.

Hi, I hope you be able help me seeing as the video is fairly old. I'm in the process of replacing the bulb but I'm curious to know if there's a way of opening the headlight without baking it? There has to be a way through without a heat gun or use of an oven. Thanks!

A much better and less damaging way to remove the trip clip as mentioned around 6:53 is to remove to lower splash guard and depress the tab while sliding. Releasing the clip is done by hand. prying the trim will always damage it, even slightly.

Nice video man. But one question, do you know if the clear plastic lens on the front of the assembly is held on by clips and is removable? They are starting to get a little cloudy on my e46 325ci and I just assume that if I can get them off I can clean them or just replace it.

I was told there was a ballast and an "igniter". Is the igniter one of the boxes shown or is it located elsewhere on the headlight assembly?

Igniter holds the high intensity D2S bulb and is found inside the housing. Ballast is usually found on the outside lower part of headlight.

You don't have to remove whole headlight assembly however, we would recommend it. You will be able to insert bulb properly and risk hot bulb touching side plastic walls and burning through it.

Thank you I am able to take out and my surprise it was compromised, I see pre-owner solder the wires, and the bulb was broken in peace. I think it was due to impact. well, worst case I prepared to buy used one.. can suggestions where can I get t from!

+Tato Oikashvili BMW is weird that way. We've seen headlights that are halogen as well. Don't know why bmw would manufacture 04 models with halogen bulb versus xenon. Depends on the package the car is equipped with.
