How to remove BMW X5 Rear Door Panel

The X5 that I'm working on had the rear window shades. Does the shades have to be removed before the panel can come off?

Do NOT pull the top of the panel outwards as shown. Those upper clips are supposed to stay on the panel. You did this the hard way. Remove the plastic vertical window shade housing above the panel. There is one screw under the shade holding the panel down. Then LIFT the panel up off the frame like you would in any other car.

Hope you figured out that the panel has to be removed first and then shade can be removed by removing phillp screws i beleive. Hope all turned out well.

The red plastic tool is often called door panel remover, the other tool that looks like a screw driver with two hooks at the end, I call husky and can be found in most home depot stores. Hope that helps

Im now working my 2004 BMW X5 Rear door panel. however your video shows how to remove the rear panel for a 2001 BMW X5. Correct me if Im wrong but I have notice that the 2001 X5 BMW's don't have a screen that the 2004 X5 BMW Have in the rear doors that we can pull up when windows are down. do you know how to remove it?

Well I learned from this video that I had been attaching my bowden cable wrong and is prob why I can't get it to stay on the back of the inner handle. Only video I could find that shows how that thing attaches up close. I had been trying to feed it in all weird and it just slides right in and then clips. Now I gotta try again and see if it was me or the handle thats messed up before I go and pay for a new inner handle. Already bought a new bowden cable but don't think it was even broken, maybe it just popped off the back of that interior handle. (carrier already replaced last weekend)

Please help! I have the door panel off but closed the door. How do I unlatch it - the outside door handle doesn’t open now. Also not an issue but the glue failed on the top of the door card so the black top piece of the door separated from the door skin. Note that there is an additional connection in the middle of the door. After separating the door card from it’s edge-pins reach in & pinch the metal A going into a plastic connector. Note the back of the grab-handle connector snagged the inner door handle clip & shattered it…be careful that it is out of the way even when it is detached…looked like the connector had been glued together before.

Great Vid however should be noted this door is a base model X5 mine is the same year but has the side airbags and privacy screen that need to be removed and there's additional steps dealing with the airbags on either door.

When I just did my handle carrier, I didn't even unplug mine. I unbolted it but left it plugged in and then hung it from the top of the window with a bungee cord. No codes thrown, and didn't have to disconnect the battery. If you don't disconnect the battery, but unplug the airbag, I was told you have to pay around a $100 to have the dealer clear the code...This was something that held me up for a while as I was worried about having to do all that (it's not like the battery is easy to get to, especially b/c I have the pull out load floor)

The privacy shade is in the way. I cant lift the panel up with this in the way! Your X5 example doesn't have this part. I don't know how to remove the privacy shade!

I have a little tiny light bulb that comes off the wiring loom. The wires are black in color. It has a special attachment looking clip tha tis also black but I can't figure out where it is suppose to go. I see nowhere that it can insert into.

Fairly accurate, but dud you are WRONG on the rear 1/4 window sunshade removal. The clip holding the top of that sunshade is facing DOWN!!! Fish a very small screwdriver behind the 1/4 window sunshade and move it carefully UP!!! Please correct your post
