The very first time I was learning this was via subnetting. My Indian engineer co-worker was explaining subnetting which I’d never heard of before. It was the most confusing thing I could remember learning, he asked if I knew Binary, I said umm 0 and 1 I think. He started to explain the number thing, I was absolutely lost and totally confused. Nothing else he said after that I understood. Videos like this when I found it made it so much easier to understand. I laugh now how seemingly easy it is to understand binary computation.

you forgot to explain, how comes up the values of your chart, 128,64,32,16,8,4,2,1 these numbers arise for the binary system (base-2), each digit (bit) can be either 0 or 1, and each position in a binary number represents a power of 2.

@Certbros3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! /24 means there are 24 binary bits used for the network section. Its a different way of saying 255.255.255.0. Hope this helps.

Binary can be 1 or zero. 2 options. Transistor is on or off. How then is it possible to get the number 1? Minimum transistors is one, and 2 states on or off, so how is one possible? Thanks in advance
@Certbros4 жыл бұрын
Not sure you quite grasped this yet. Try going back through the video. Below is how you can get 0, 1, 2 etc. 0 = 00000000 1 = 00000001 2 = 00000010 and so on.

Nice video again! However, I find it quite confusing to talk about network classes. IPv4 networks have been classless since 1993 (or something) and they have no meaning anymore. Why should anyone (except for historical perspective) learn classful IPv4?
@Certbros4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Ossi. You are absolutely right. We don't uses classes anymore and I mention this in the previous video. I still think its important to understand them though as they're are still referenced a lot and used in default configurations. I appreciate the feed back 👍
