Hello from Canada! I have a question, is it advisable to EQ out the frequencies that the binaural beats are working in, from the rest of your instruments and sounds? Like EQing kick drums and basslines so they don't interfere? I feel like if you don't give it space, too many frequencies will mix together and create a muddy binaural. Let me know what you think. Thanks for this awesome video!
@steffenkisonicalchemy2 жыл бұрын
hello there :) thanks for the great question! here is my perspective: In general you can do that and it will result in a cleaner mix for sure if you have tracks that use a lot of low end like kicks and bass sounds. I would then however try to find the fundamental frequencies of the bass/kick and generate the binaural beat outside of that range and then cut those frequencies. you can also use higher frequencies and mask the binaural within pad sounds for example, for the pulsing only the difference of the frequencies perceived in the left and right ear are important, the carrier frequency can be anything.
@runicformz2 жыл бұрын
@@steffenkisonicalchemy thanks for the awesome reply! That makes sense. I can use higher frequencies for my pads and drones and leave the binaural beats in the lower ranges or vice versa. Can't wait to try this out! I've got a couple projects on the go that I want to try this on! Thanks again! 🙏

Super interesting video, thank you!! I have a question regarding the calculation of the Hz. I don't understand how 4 Hz equals 200 Hz... Do we always need to calculate times 2? I can't find resources that explain the differences between these brain wave Hz frequencies and tuning (ie standard 440 Hz tuning). Would love to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks!
@steffenkisonicalchemy Жыл бұрын
hello Alexandra, thanks for the feedback :) to answer your question: its the difference of the 2 distinct frequencies of the left and the right ear. 200 does not equal 4hz but there is a 4hz difference between 200 Hz and 204 Hz this difference if panned hard to the left and right ear makes the brain create a 4hz Brainwave pattern, it has nothing to do with the tuning any frequencies can be used but higher frequencies sound more piercing and are harder to camouflage in a mix thats why I use 200 hz and 200 Hz
@xbananamex Жыл бұрын
@@steffenkisonicalchemy Thanks so much for taking the time to reply! So basically, the graphic you show a few times in your video represents the difference between the left and right frequencies? This means that if I want to get to 7 hz, I should aim for a difference of 7 Hz (eg 200 hz - 207 hz)?

But the another sound like mention befor Bells, Drone... about what i have to care that there be in harmony ?

Hey, Thank you for this video! Could you please explain me how to convert the amount of Hz that is on the "spreadsheet" image (at 04:30 of the video) to the Hz in Ableton? It confuses me because both on the spreadsheet and in Ableton it says Hz, but the numbers are different in Ableton. So for example when you put the value of the fixed frequency to 214Hz in Ableton, you say "now we are in Alpha", and Alpha is between 7,5-14Hz. Could you please explain? Thanks so much!
@steffenkisonicalchemy2 жыл бұрын
sure :) so the way binaural beats work is that the brain creates a neuronal oscillation (this is the actual brainwave entrainment frequency) if 2 different frequencies are played panned hard left and right, the difference (mathematical distance) between those 2 frequencies is what our brain turns into the binaural pulse. For example if you want to create an alpha binaural you have to create a difference of 7.5 - 14Hz between the two. Any easy example would be having one osc of the operator playing 200 Hz panned to the right side and having a second osc playing 214 Hz on the left side. The difference between the 2 is 14 Hz, and this is the frequency the brain will generate as a binaural pulse and therefore entrain itself into the associated brainwave state. Does this make sense?

@@steffenkisonicalchemy The OP never did respond and I was also confused at first when i watched your video and wasnt sure. I have a question: do you think that the effect would be diminished of the binaural beats if there are a couple of synths recorded in key with the binaural sine waves? I plan on recording 3 synths additionally and mixing in the theta pulse.

Hi, what's the difference between tuning A at 444 hz and 432 hz? cause other sources recommend tuning at 432 but in this experiment we noticed harmonious results with 444. what is the relation and which is better?
@steffenkisonicalchemy Жыл бұрын
both tunings have nothing to do with each other. The solfeggio tones are not musical in a classical sense, 444 Hz gets you the closest to match the tones. 432 Hz is a tuning that resembles the geometry of the cosmos, I use 444 Hz only when working with SOlfeggios and 432 for the rest

At 19:29 the frequency is shown in hertz. On my PC I can only get it to show a percent, or semitone, never a frequency. Using Ableton Live 11. Can you suggest a solution? Ableton support says it would be a "feature" to add the frequency in hertz, but your obviously able to do it. Help!
@steffenkisonicalchemy9 ай бұрын
yes you can change the settings in the tuner, where it says "target" after that you see "ct" if you click on that the tuner should switch to "Hz" and display the frequency
@steffenkisonicalchemy9 ай бұрын
or do you mean the automation for the binaural frequency? in this case you have to make sure that the oscillator in the operator is set to "fixed" and then you just click on the frequency knob in operator intferface and it should give you the option to automate it in the clip like I did
@Halcyon1118 ай бұрын
@@steffenkisonicalchemy Did not see this reply till today - I had reached out to Ableton and finally got an answer which essentially was " you have to enable Automation mode in Arrangement View in order to draw the automation necessary.". And this worked. Thank you for your effort though.

@@steffenkisonicalchemy Would there be any way you could link a screenshot of this? I do not see a "target" or "ct" setting on my oscillator. Sorry, I am a newbie. (The 2nd explanation was clear though, thank you).

Thx for the nice Video, I understand the mathematic, but I have one question: what is better to get (for example) 4 Hz, if I subtract "left 205 Hz -Right 200 Hz" or "Left 104 Hz - Right 100 Hz" or " Left 54 Hz- Right 50 Hz"? all of them sounds different? but in the end they all produce Brainwave 4 Hz in Brain?? is it right? but what is the Best? and can i make isochronic tone of it with autopan is it possible, i made this and the wave form was looking good? greetz A great fan form Germany/Berlin
@steffenkisonicalchemy3 жыл бұрын
Hey Claus, that's correct its all about the difference between left and right, no matter what frequencies you actually choose. there is no better or worse, it more depends if you want the the frequency to be audible or not and maybe in tune with something you alreadt have (lets say an octave of the root note of the key you are in for example. this way you could create a drone that is harmonic) As for the isochronic tones i would use an LFO to modulate the volume of the osciallator. Blessings from Costa Rica Steffen

Are headphones absolutely necessary for binaural beats?
@steffenkisonicalchemy2 жыл бұрын
when listening to music yes! the binaural beat is created within your brain when it receives 2 differing frequencies on each ear panned hard left and right, you can only achieve this with headphones and maybe with near field monitors but you have to place them correctly and sit right in front. Tuning forks can create that binaural effect as well if you have 2 different tuned forks placed on each ear resonating. But you can achieve a brainwave entrainment effect also using ISOCHRONIC TONES, in this case no headphones are required because there is no panning involved and we hear the acutal frequency and entrain because of the pluse/rhythm of that frequency
