The audio really sells the realism, this is more immersive to me than 360 video. Now imagine if he filmed this in 3D stereoscopically with this sound. I don't have an oculus rift or anything, but this is the most accessible way to most people to get some form of immersion, simply by consuming this audio content with a decent pair of headphones. (Earbuds might sound crappier).
@xilefx10 жыл бұрын
0:28 dat door. I was even looking to my right.. It works pretty good, given that the ear is extremely sensible and is hard to be tricked. But it's not perfect still - I wear really good headphones and there is this something in these soundwaves that I just won't 100% believe I am in New York. for instance, IRL 24:19 I would clearly hear that the train is arriving on the right - in this video the sound is just coming from everywhere - I closed my eyes the first time so I really didn't knew.
@radiofloyd23595 жыл бұрын
I think the biggest challenge will be to get out of that augmented feeling: the transitions between channels are still very rough comparatively to everyday hearing and the difference between the channels is also too agresive: I don't hear music from the back as differently as in the vid, for example. Anyhow, I'm quite excited to see this technology become better and better and this video is still ear candy, lol.

The sound quality is great and you are able to pick up every detail even more than what my own ears could but I don't sense much depth; I'm new to this. Perhaps it's my own headphones? I'm able to sense left, right, low and high but I don't sense much far or near; Of course I notice sounds getting louder and quieter relative to distance but I don't sense the depth; not sure if I make any sense. Again I'm new to this and I'm really digging it. Perhaps it's more intense in a VR World.

@ryanmanning166510 жыл бұрын

@Lebron0699 жыл бұрын
Well thats because the microphones are picking up every noise at the same level. If you would experience that same soundscape in real life your brain would filter alot of noise. This is also known as the "cocktail party effect". But this kind of selective hearing is not (yet) possible to recreate with audio recording. Thats why people with hearing devices have trouble following conversations in noisey environments.

I believe that at 7:26 is a prime example of how realistic binaural audio can sound. That captured the voices and surrounding sound extremely well, distributed the audio between the channels perfectly, inputted the height and location of where the audio was coming from (kind of like audio depth), and even slightly focused on the voice and almost tuned out the background noise as we humans do in real life. That was the point where those factors applied best in this video. With all those factors applied as well as how the microphone end is shaped, it sounded absolutely identical to real life. Binaural audio, is amazing.

I like the handheld shots better than the glide shots. The result is more immersive and less dizzying.

This could be a really cool addition to treadmills. You could walk along pretty much. Make the pitch of the surface you are walking on change with the terrain the guy is walking on.

if the microphone was a little better on picking up audio, this would be a real awesome trip. Big potential in this. I love it!
