Binding Basics Bonus - Using the Creative Grids Stripology Ruler

Hello all of you Beautiful, Creative People out there! Welcome back to Scheetz Sew Creative!
In this video, Erin presents a "Sew Quick" tutorial on how to use the Creative Grids Stripology Ruler to cut 2.5 inch strips for making bindings.
To calculate how much binding you need for a quilt, you can follow these steps:
1. Measure the perimeter of the quilt:
Add up the length of all four sides of the quilt.

2. Add extra length for corners and seams:
Add an extra 12" inches to the perimeter for mitered corners and joining the binding ends.

3. Determine the width of the binding strips:
Most quilters use binding strips that are 2.5” wide.
4. Calculate the fabric needed for binding strips:
Divide the perimeter length by the usable width of your fabric (commonly 40 inches for quilting cotton).

5. Multiply by the width of the strips:
Multiply the number of strips by the width of each strip to calculate the total fabric required.

Example:
• Quilt dimensions: 60” × 80”
• Perimeter: 2(60+80) = 280"
• Add extra length: 280" + 12" = 292"
• Usable fabric width: 40 inches
• Strip width: 2.5 inches
• Number of strips: 292"/40" = 7.3 Strips Round up = 8 Strips
• Fabric needed: 8 Strips x 2.5" = 20" inches of fabric
In this example, I would get 2/3 of a yard of fabric (24") if I were cutting my own strips.
