K/Joe has such a fantastic arc. He didn’t want to be just “another replicant”, he wanted to be something more, so it was devastating to see him learn he wasn’t the child of Rick. But reflecting on the events that happened throughout the movie, Joe did the most human thing to do, and saved Rick to help him reunite with his child. At the conclusion of the movie, Joe ended up becoming a lot more than just “another replicant”. Despite being a replicant, Joe proved he was more human than a lot of humans, and that’s why I love his arc and his character. It’s just so deep and poetic :) This movie is still a masterpiece in 2024 and will always be a masterpiece!

@Howlingburd19 As well, it was a great misdirection for the audience. We assume he's, like many movie heroes, _"the chosen one."_ To discover that he's _just another Replicant_ also affects the audience, we felt let down as well. There were major clues that if you had time to sit down and think about them, it would have been obvious, but you were too caught up in the story to notice at the time. The biggest is his memory of being bullied by the other boys trying to steal the wooden figurine. As an adult, he can run through a multiple brick layers wall and beat up a bigger Nexus 6 with ease - he's stronger than a silverback gorilla. As a child, he should have been able to kill a group of adult men with his bare hands, let alone a group of older boys.

Original release, the theatrical version, was such trash! Woops, what a massive mistake! Directors cut...one of the best sci-fi and even most emotive films ever I think, for me!...even if it's emotional heart was galvanised by Rutger hauers ad lib little monologue near the end; was just meant to be I guess! This film is equally as good for me for being similar, but evolved; almost a sonnet to the original. Measured, balanced, considered, made with respect and passion I felt! As a massive fan of the original I was frankly surprised and delighted at how a modern director made such an integruous effort and to come even close to the original is a big achievement. Low and behold ...it came at the expense of any great commercial success. Ok, so youngsters might not remember the original, but they'll lap up crappy modern iterations of star wars or whatnot. I'd love to see another but struggle to see where it can really go from here. The original story has been told and seen through and the ethical, religious, humanitarian questions have surely all been posed? I hope to be proved wrong!

Why the fuck do they show climactic action pieces in the dark or low light these days? To save on vfx money? Easier to make it look cooler? Hide ugly details? The original Blade Runner was also mostly set in neon lit rainy nights but it never felt too dark or needed to squint. This film had its visual moments but doesn't really better the incredible original film's visuals.
@brotherjohnnyxXxX2 жыл бұрын
They could have easily shot this scene in a more illuminated place, but clearly, that's not what they wanted. In this particular scene, it was pitch black outside, the only lights came from the vehicles, which gave the scene an ominous feeling. However, we can clearly see what's going on. The 1982 original film had its visual moments but thirty years later, its a no brainer that the visual effects of Villeneuve's film surpass those of the original.

LUV isn’t the ‘main’ bad guy - she’s Wallace’s lackey, who he makes feel special by calling her his ‘best angel of all’, in order to ensure her slavish reverence of him remains intact. LUV has essentially the mind of a warped, twisted child - her words to K (“I’m the best one”) confirm this, and her appearance reflects that, with the bangs a good example. I’m not saying she’s stupid, she’s a clever manipulator herself and being coldly ruthless is a force to be reckoned with - but she’s immature and sees the world in a childishly black and white way. I will agree that Roy Batty is a better antagonist, but to say that one of the greatest ‘villains’ in cinema history is better isn’t exactly an insult. I love Sylvia Hoeks’ performance in this film, and honestly I think the character of LUV is pretty good too, simple but effective.
