It's weird to frame Mario as the underdog in this fight when he clearly has plot armor and always gets preferential treatment over Donkey Kong. It's like Batman beating Superman, realistically, Supes should wipe the floor, but writers always have to nerf Superman and make Batman cheat to make it look like a fair fight but ultimately give the win to the more popular character.
