What’s the movie Cape Fear about?
When attorney Sam Bowden (Nick Nolte from The Prince of Tides and Warrior) knowingly withholds evidence that would acquit violent sex offender Max Cady (Robert De Niro from Taxi Driver, The Godfather and The Irishman) of rape charges, Max spends 14 years in prison. But after Max's release, knowing about Sam's deceit, he devotes his life to stalking and destroying the Bowden family. When practical attempts to stop Max fail, Sam realizes that he must act outside the law to protect his wife and daughter.

One of the greatest suspense movies of all time- when this came out, I was in high school...I'm pretty sure I went to the theater at least three different times to watch this version of the movie- loved it so much I took a female friend on a date to see it, and a group of us went, and my dad wanted to go see it, so I went with him. Between this movie, Silence of the Lambs, The Fugitive- lot of great movies came out in those days.

Haha, glad I'm not the only one to make that error. For a second date, I though of taking her to a romantic comedy to set the mood, yet I just couldn't help but find that rather obvious and cliché, so I went for a thriller instead. It was called A Walk Among The Tombstones with Liam Neeson. It was only 16+ age limit, so I though that in spite of the ominous name, it would be fine. Close to two hours later, after a good amount of not-so-date-friendly rape and torture scenes, I discovered that no, it was in fact not fine at all. The third date strangely did not come to pass.

Robert De Niro showcased with this performance just how diverse of an actor he is. I remember watching this and waiting for his strong New York accent to accidentally seep through and it NEVER did. His acting in this film was stellar and I'm not surprised because anytime he's coupled with Scorsese everything is on another level. Max Cady is a deeply broken and disturbed character and De Niro nailed it. The scene where he drowns at the end, the look on his face as it happening... That's an actor, baby. My, goodness.

The original is a vastly better and more frightening film. De Niro looks like that tiny guy who hit the gym, and he's always shot from below to make him appear bigger (which still doesn't work). In the original, Robert Mitchum is huge and genuinely threatening and creepy, even to a big guy like Gregory Peck. Watch it
@candymiller3304
@candymiller3304 3 жыл бұрын
I heard it's better too. Thanks for the rec, now I want to see it. And Mitchum never did loser washed up movies and embarrassed himself proving he is crazy, mindless and challenged in public with the f bomb rants the way De Niro has. It's just a fact that a person can destroy their legacy when you see there's nothing underneath the hood and they are a one trick pony and hack. I mean, let me guess, it's a De Niro movie so I'm going to see a small guy acting like a tough sociopath. It's not like he has the chops to even play a DA or middle school teacher let alone something for the smart people with actual range like A Beautiful Mind. He's a raging psycho who can only play raging psychos which means it was always a con calling him an actor or artist. He knows it which is why he ducked interviews for 40 years. Well the cat is out of the bag.

Its not about size. Nolte's character is civilised and rational. He plays within society's rules. He has a family to protect, a job, a house. Cady is a psychopath who doesnt give af about prison, or death, or consequences of any kind. He has nothing to protect, nothing to lose. He cant be intimidated or paid off. Hes literally capable of anything.
