You know a lot get's made about how "dumb" Forest Gump was, and as a kid I used to think that as well. As I've gotten older I've come to appreciate just how wise of a character he was. How many times we over think something and how that stops us from doing something. Here for example Forest didn't think about how he could start a Shrimping company, how to make it work, what could go wrong, etc etc he just did it and rolled with things as it came. He ran just for the hell of it and was able to navigate coast to coast via the road system in the US. He immediately understood that in the military he needed to do what he was told and quickly adapted everything he needed to know. Such a beautiful scene, and the message is truly inspiring. The storm represents Lt. Dan confronting his demons and all the angry and misery that is in his life. She had an out the entire time but didn't take it, but yeah Jenny is a "victim", she got abused as a child sure but she turnt away Gump's help every time until she was already terminally doomed. "Completely fucked by God" is a fun way for saying she was a fucking idiot and got herself killed, but sure... a perfect pair

@@legoeasycompany Who in the right mind would want to be with Forrest Gump at first? He's a retard and not even the best one. Pure love is not gonna make up for it. Especially when you are young and there's so many oppurtunity. She's tried to gain a reliable love but her luck is fucked every time. Also, she does not demand any penny from Forrest so no one has a right to says anything about her. Forrest gets his fortune out of his misfortunes. Whenever the world fuck him, destiny rewards him back with tons of goods. While Jenny is the opposite. If they were together in the first place, Jenny would protect Forrest from all that misfortune thus causing him to lose a chance to gain fortunes. That's why they are perfect. They even each other out. The best outcome of this I can think of is Forrest's work as a Janitor, Jenny as a waitrest. As for the canon storyline, they did not together at first. God favors Forrest while Jenny doesn't. Forrest got the luxury life but his retardness won't allow him to enjoy or truly understand the meaning of it. Jenny can feel all but all she feels is empty. In the end, Forrest got a son whom he can feel loved by others than Jenny. And Jenny, die but knowing that someone truly loves her, and her son exists. And her son's life would be ensured with happiness thanks to Forrest. Their destiny even out with their son. No matter in what circumstances, they would always be a perfect pair, a happy ending for them. Just not the kind of Micky Mouse ending, or Teenager love story ending where everyone kisses and fuck with a smile in the end so lots of people blame Jenny. Cause she's not the main character.

i object to reducing each character down to a particular virtue. I think the writer of Forrest Gump would also have objected. Each of them is more than the corporeal form of a single virtue. If it were that simple, it wouldn't move you like it does. They are humans and all of them have their human imperfections. Even Forrest.

@Craig-ib7gk3 жыл бұрын
@@garmenlin5990 I understood. That's even more fuel to the stake of clean vs. hard living. Jenny partied her ass off and lived hard, paying for it with premature aging and ultimately her life due to her lifestyle choices. Forest never did any of that. I remember when this movie came out. The debate of a more "liberal" lifestyle (Jenny) vs. the simpleton conservative lifestyle (Forest) and the fruits and labors that come from each was much talked about back in '94.

@@Craig-ib7gk haven’t watched the movie but wasn’t she in like loads of abusive relationships or did she just sleep around what ?
@Craig-ib7gk3 жыл бұрын
@@siennamelake4776 First *see the movie* . It wasn't an Academy award winner on accident. Regarding Jenny, every kind of abuse you can think of in her house growing up. She "escaped" into the cities and communes of the 70's, hopping from one abusive relationship to another, tons of drugs, etc. It wasn't util she came home, cleaned up, ultimately became a mom, that things started turning north. Even then, it seems God had one more trial in store for her. Like I said, see the movie. It's two hours of your life you won't regret burning. It wasn't by accident the film was nominated for 13 academy awards, winning six of them including best-picture, best director for Zemeckis, best-actor by Hanks, etc.. That's a tall order, especially when you consider the films/actors pitted against it (Pulp Fiction and The Shawshank Redemption among them). That year was kind of a pisser for me, as I couldn't believe Legends of the Fall wasn't at least nominated for Best Picture. I still think Shawshank should have one it, but to each their own.

Lt. Dan is a majorily relatable character for me. Im not nor have I been a druggie or a cripple, but, the scene at the new years party where he just kinda looks not even part of the room as everyone is celebrating the new year was how i was from 13-16 years old, my father was emotionally abusive and i had learned some hard truths and was not able to express my emotions in a healthy way:i played football because it tested my physical might and was violent, same with lifting weights, but i still had eating disorder issues. However, my dad finally got put in a nursing home, and i was already starting to be able to live oblivious to his existence because i had my license and was working, but, by the grace of the universe, he finally realized he was causing too much emotional damage to himself and others so he decided it was time for qualified professionals to take care of him and his ailments. That is when i began to heal, a lot. I learned a lot about myself through thinking about my emotions/reactions to certain things, and, as lietuenant dan did, i made my peace. They always talk about the pursuit of happiness or whatever but i believe that the ultimate happiness is peace, and it is what we should seek out.

Through this sentence "I've never thanked you for saving my life," the lieutenant doesn't explicitly thank Forrest because it's the lieutenant's character; he would never admit such a thing to anyone. Lately I been reading up on stories of Vietnam vets healing from their traumas and guilt, many even traveling to Vietnam finding the pieces of themselves they left behind, getting the attention they deserved after being forced into a war that wasn't even theirs to fight only to be neglected afterwards and left to fend for themselves, many living exactly as Lt Dan is depicted And I don't know why but lately those stories have just been getting to me, including this otherwise fictional account, they can't go back to who they were before but they can still find a bright future for themselves and find healing and forgiveness
