Watched this first more than 15 years ago. Now watched it again in 2024. It is the most beautiful house and the most inspiring artistic and idealist story. Thank you.

What magnificent home to build by himself. He's very skilled and patient and seems to have kept his sense of humor intact in spite of the financial setbacks and physical fatigue.

Just the type of building I love. Working on my own in Rocky Mountains. Wish I'm 20years younger. :)

Beautifully done, the craftsmanship is stunning, very talented man. It also amazes me that natural materials are less than the traditional materials that builders use today.

I have the blessing to live in a large community of alternative life-stylers here in New Zealand. We have an expensive range of off the grid, owner built dwellings. So soul fore filling. We don’t burn willow in my country. Willow creates residue inside one’s chimney and has the potential to cause a fire in the chimney. Very dangerous. Pine grows very fast so is a good heat source mixed with some our natives and Australian hardwoods- perfect firewood mix.

What happens to the bales over time? Even newspapers turn to dust eventually.
@EllieChristine744 Жыл бұрын
As long as no water gets to the bales, they can last almost for ever. I once saw a straw baled roof, about 300years old - when they were laying a new roof, they discovered ropes made from straw underneath, as fresh as the day it was laid. Fantastic, really.

I have checked on the internet, it says the builder sold soon after completion and moved to Canada. The house is again for sale, having doubled it`s retail value.. As far as I know there is no law against moving to another country, selling your home. Maybe they got an offer too good to turn down, and maybe they could be even more self sufficient on their next property.. Anyway, I can`t see anything wrong here, just unexpected that they moved.

Yes, some of the houses are sold, sometimes soon afterwards, sometimes later, but sometimes never. Some of these houses sell for immense profit. Some people's reasons for moving have nothing to do with the house at all. Expecting fairy-tale endings where everyone lives happily ever after is not realistic.
