This couple did an amazing job of restoring this grade 2 listed property. I wonder if there are grants and assistance for homeowners who wish to do this work in the uk. After all, they are preserving history.

I could live here happily without the new kitchen and modern gadgets. I would use that money for antique medieval furniture, paintings and rugs. But I do understand their esthetic veiw of modern mix.

Start off with a "Full Structural Survey" so you understand the risk - Such problems will reduce the Purchase Price. Otherwise, you've already started by paying too much. No, it's not romantic, but it will save you thousands!

18 years on, with interest rates rocketing, I wonder if they managed to afford to stay there? The repayments today, must be what, 4000 a month? Considering the house is probably worth 3 Million or more...I wonder if the Bank are putting pressure on them...?!

This inflation of the cost of this “home” is criminal. There is no other way to describe the extortive requirements for preserving what is no longer their home but has become the community’s museum-paid without reasonable alternatives for living in the “house “. The preservation of the homes exterior is understandable given the community’s appearance. The exacting replacement on the interior is another matter altogether.

38:33 I always feel sorry for people who automate their homes with mortgage money, it will all be obsolete with 20 years of payments to go. If you can't do it comfortably (interest free) don't bother.

Was it possible to treat and harden some of the existing Timbers? I know early on in the post, it was dreamed not so. But looking at some of the smaller joists and supports I felt that could be an option.

As far as i know, there's no such technology. To impregnate it with some kind of resin would not help, because it must bear the load. Unlike metal, wood or carbonfiber have fibers, but they are mostly eaten out. All left is like cookie, how much load does impregnated cookie can bear?
