My mum’s weird friend downsized her house after her husband died and bought a Rolls to travel about Europe in. A spring broke in some village in Italy and the company sent one out express. When she got back to England she contacted the company saying “you haven’t billed me yet?” and they replied “there must be some mistake madam - Rolls Royce springs don’t break”

"Toksvig Transit - No matter how long the journey, we get you there in the shortest amount of time!" I love Stephen Fry, but Sandi has taken on the role and made it her own; one of the very rare cases where someone takes over a role and is as iconic as the original, the other case being Carolyn Jones \ Angelica Houston as Morticia Addams.

My friend who was moving from California to Kentucky asked me to join her on the journey to take her car to her new home in about 2005. We were not pressed for time and decided to stick to Route 66 as much as possible, following a guidebook from the 1960s. You can't go the whole way to Chicago from California any longer. We did stop at the ghost town in Oatman, which was worthwhile, and the Elvis museum, but somehow missed the other landmarks Sandi mentioned. I have to say that we had our only decent meal on that journey when we deviated to Santa Fe, New Mexico. If you want to do that route, buy stuff to make sandwiches and buy fruit, salads, etc.

I once went to a comedy show with a friend of mine we were sat in the front row he didn't enjoy it because the comic picked us out to comment on something. I found it funny. In general the rule for interacting with other people is the rule of 'saving face' (or at least it used to be). We go to incredible lengths to avoid making other people feel bad such as 'do you happen to know where... something or other is?' no way to feel offended if you don't and a positive feeling of being in the know or special if you do. But on the other side of this is comedy - (and this is a comedy not a quiz show) People choose to put themselves in the situation - the rush comes from being noticed. They are laughing with them not at them. I'm English we're not always easy to understand although I didn't really realise that until I had lived in a couple of other countries.

Waiting and stopping are legally distinct terms. In both cases, the driver has to be with the vehicle, but if you're waiting, you have the engine running; whereas if you switch the engine off, you are stopped.
@marka2520

That can't be right because that would allow waiting.
@nigeldepledge3790
@nigeldepledge3790 Жыл бұрын
@@marka2520 - that depends on the definition of the sign. If it signifies a clearway in which both waiting and stopping are prohibited, then it doesn't. If the sign simply signifies no stopping, then waiting is permitted, albeit a fairly stupid thing to do if the traffic is moving quickly.
@vink6163
@vink6163 Жыл бұрын
Where I live they tend to use the term 'standing' rather than 'waiting' - 'no standing' means you can't be stationary there. But it only applies to the side of the road, you can still be stopped in the middle of the road waiting for the car in front to move, which is what the clearway prohibits.

Every time I watch a show based in the UK and hear a fact about how small it actually is compared to other countries I just can’t wrap my mind around it! I’m currently on a 16 hour road trip from Colorado to Indiana and my first leg is almost twice the distance of the A66 they were mentioning! I’ve also done Route 66 including some of the original “ribbon road” and it’s so crazy to see how much the landscape changes, if you can do it it’s a fun trip. We were lucky to stay with family in Chicago, Vegas and LA which made it wayyy cheaper 😂

In Germany there's a huge Metal Festival every year, and because drunk metalheads are, well, drunk metalheads, they went and stole the entry-signs of the town it was happening at, since that's what the festival was named after. Ever since they just completely remove those signs before the festival starts. I also vaguely remember them replacing them with something like "Town of Metal" or something, but then people stole those signs instead.

Rod Stewart having a hobby and being dedicated and good at it will not appeal to most people. But those who appreciate such craftsmanship and dedication would most probably be more mature, intelligent and artistic individuals. What everyone finds sexually appealing is different, so some women would most probably not find this hobby appealing, but it would be attractive to some women with similar interests. What I'm trying to say is if you have similar hobbies don't be dissuaded by not being appealing to some people, be aware they are not compatible with you. Be happy when you find someone who does have similar interests, this shared interests would strengthen your relationship.
