The escalator is one of the things I like. Those are the first escalators I ever rode on. Those chandeliers were not there in the 70s or 80s. Looks like one from the 2000s. I have a lot of memories in the elevators. They'll probably use them for freight only since they'll use the 4th Fl for storage. I think when I was little, Fowlers had the restaurant on the 3rd Fl. Does anybody else remember this? Thanks Frank, please keep us updated and don't let anything happen to this video as it might be the only way we get to see the way it was.

Now bring back the ubiquitous department store restaurant. Loved the Shirley Temples and that was my introduction to "ladies who lunch." LOL. And, yes, the candy counter, and the yard goods department for the sewers. Amazing the width and breadth of the old department store offerings.

Great news, Frank! Couldn't imagine Binghamton without Boscov's.

Yes the era of a department store downtown is a thing of the past. I am from Grand Rapids MI and at one time we had 3 department stores within a couple of blocks. They were by name, Steketees, Wurzbergs and Herpolsheimers. Once the mall opened in the late 60's, they slowly closed and the downtown shopping district was gutted. Sad. Glad to see Boscov's is retaining it's location and planning all these improvements. They deserve a tax break.

Last time i was in there a year ago i didnt think the building would be still standing in 10 years. Leaks and water were everywhere and it was in the winter. The whole buiiding seemed to have no heat and many of the heat units were being worked on.

Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for this video. When I was growing up, the store was Fowlers. I remember going there after school, but I don’t think I ever bought anything. It was much too expensive for me. I remember it being the most expensive store in town, except for Drazens.

Thank you for covering this! I went to this store back in 2021 and I thought it seemed kind of old and tired looking for Boscov's standards. Keep us updated! I plan on visiting again and the renovations complete!

One last comment! We had an actual train ride suspended from the ceiling in the basement of HERPOLSHEIMERS. And the windows at christmas time were mechanical and amazing!

Hi Frank, the car that hit into Boscovs Front Doors was 'not' that long ago. News editor asked for my personal pics. It was September 2022.

I always love shopping at Boscov‘s. I’m so glad they’re staying. I didn’t know that the store was leased - maybe I just forgot. Was Fowlers leased or owned? But I’m glad they’re staying. I hope they leave more parking for people going to the store. Sometimes it was impossible to get a parking spot because all the college kids park there. They always have good quality merchandise.

A totally tax free ride, no property tax from a store that has gone bankrupt once before. Young Boscov is not that young anymore. Public should have a copy of any succession plan. Having a department store downtown is nostalgic. However not worth the steep price.
@patriotdrone9566 Жыл бұрын
100% agree with you, there is no way Boscov's is pulling enough revenue to justify its existence. Its a nostalgic museum, paid for by the tax payers. To be honest 10 million isn't nearly enough to bring it modern day standards and build a profitable retail establishment.

If they are replacing the central escalator atrium with new modern elevators, then where are they going to install the new escalators?
