It's so weird seeing them hype up the M2. I had a 3DO well after it was obvious that it was doomed and it was cheap as chips, but I remember the official magazine trying to get people excited for the M2 and it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that it would never come out because they kept claiming that the M2 would be more and more advanced every couple of months. It went from being about on par with the Nintendo 64 to being the first 128bit console, but it was cancelled before the Dreamcast had even come out. I do believe that the 3DO would probably have been quite successful if the PlayStation hadn't come out, as it would have probably had a decent shot against the Saturn and the 64. The former was just as expensive and offered worse deals for software licensing and the latter still used cartridges, meaning games were too expensive and couldn't have as much content. Sony's real edge was poaching all the people enticed by the cheap licensing by being only slightly more expensive to make games for, but having much more streamlined 3D rendering options due to the use of triangles over quads. Imagine a world where 3D games still all used quads like the 3DO and Saturn.
