Binging with Babish: Steak, Eggs and Gravy from Twister

Twister did more than make me briefly go through a phase of wanting to be a storm chaser - it showed me that with a durable enough pickup truck, you could easily drive directly through a four-bedroom house. It also made my stomach growl when Aunt Meg busted out the country cooking in her bohemian Oklahoman homestead: ribeyes with fried sunny-side-up eggs, mountains of fluffy mashed potatoes, and a rightfully famous gravy. And homemade lemonade, shit, I forgot the lemonade.

Rest in Peace Bill Paxton! Great recipe. For those of you who do not indulge in breakfast for dinner, you are missing out on one of life's greatest pleasures. My Mother use to make a delicious round steak simmered in mushroom gravey until fork tender and served it long side of fluffy homemade waffles well buttered with enough maple syrup that would puddle around that creamy steak. Wow, I need to sit down, I am a bit light headed from those childhood memories. 💞💞💞 Love you Mom, rest in peace.

"Meg's gravy is famous. It's practically a food group." That movie was incredible for a tornado obsessed teenager like me. Went on to become a professional meteorologist and hobbyist chaser and have a great time laughing at all the inaccuracies in it. It's still a great watch all these years later.
@largol33t1
@largol33t1 3 жыл бұрын
I actually lived in Oklahoma and was in college when multiple tornadoes went right through town. it wiped entire towns off the map. Even a year later, some had not been reconstructed. I remember driving through one town and the fire department and police had to DIG through rubble to get victims out because it was piled so high. The sound of the tornadoes is nothing like in the movies. To me, it sounds like a train screaming from pure agony. I don't know how to put it into words. Once you hear it, you never forget it. And the sounds sometimes haunt me. I have since moved to another state but I never forgot the night the twisters came.
@lisahenry20
@lisahenry20 3 жыл бұрын
@@largol33t1 That sounds terrifying. I'm from the UK so the biggest natural disaster we get is floods, which generally aren't too bad, especially compared to tornados, big earthquakes, and hurricanes. I had some horrible geography books which often cover different natural disasters, and it would feel so unreal when reading them because they covered things which I never had to worry about. I don't have to go out wondering whether a tornado will come or whether there will be an earthquake. According to those books (which are probably out of date now), England gets about 100 earthquakes a year although most are undetectable for humans. I've felt maybe 2 in my life, and both times I didn't know whether it was an earthquake or a truck going past the house.
@DMWolFGurL
@DMWolFGurL 3 жыл бұрын
LOL! That is one of the reasons, I don't like the movie is because of the ridiculous inaccuracies. I was born and raised in Oklahoma, myself and saw my first tornado when I was three years old. I have loved storms my whole life and I was never afraid of them like other little children, growing up. I started studying about weather and meteorology when I was 7 years old and would read books for hours about meteorology. I'm 36 now, almost 37 and although I have never been to school for meteorology, I figure I have enough knowledge, from almost 30 years of just being obsessed and studying all sorts of weather. Better late than never, but I still want to make it to OU, best school in the world for meteorology, and actually get the minimum, Bachelor of Science Degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Sciences. I still chase storms and have all of the know how and weather awareness, the only thing I don't have is the degree.

@@jordanhicks5131 I don't really like sausage and bacon, I kind of have to be in the right mood for them and that's typically not in the morning, and I've never heard of fries being considered breakfast food. Pancakes (at least the English version of them) are usually considered a dinner thing (especially savoury ones), waffles aren't really a thing we have much in the UK, especially as a meal, it's usually as a dessert. I don't really like egg much, similar to the sausage and bacon I need to be in the right mood, and cereal can get so boring.
