Technically, each berry has a flavor profile (ie pecha is sweet, rawst is bitter) so real life equivalents would be less about the literal inspiration fruit, but more the specific flavors

I know this sounds ridiculous but….sword and shield actually inspired me and my little sister to try curry for the first time. Our family was very typically “Midwestern” and didn’t experiment with a lot of foods, so we never had eaten it. We almost cried with joy when we ate it and discovered it was delicious. Now we often go out for curry and absolutely love it. I know that a third pass on the curry would have been too much for the 'these are also in the game' section, but as a kid who grew up poor in the UK, 'Sausage Curry' was a thing we definitely ate, and we'd make it by cooking the sausages in the curry sauce with the vegetables like it was the beef you used. In the games, each berry actually has a flavor and texture. The Pecha berry for example is described as sweet and tender similar to a peach, while a Rawst berry is described as being very bitter, unlike a strawberry. It would be cool to see this dish made with fruit that taste and feel how they're described in the game.

I thought that when I saw the thumbnail, but he didn't put in a bunch of herbs or anything. Edit: The yellow rice might be Pilau rice, which is always around in Indian restaurants in the UK (: As a UK person, I always felt that the Japan-style basic curry was closest to something like a Korma. That predominant sweetness is a key feature of both. I'd be interested to find out what the original dehydrated "curry" block rations that inspired this type of cuisine in Japan/the Philippines etc. was supposed to be imitating. The history of that food is really interesting.

My understanding is that the curry powder introduced to Japan during the Meiji Era by the British originated from Indian traders selling Brits a spice mix similar to garam masala that would easily replicate the flavors of Indian sauces when they returned to Britain. So, it could be said it wasn't necessarily trying to replicate any particular Indian dish, and that Japanese curry developed as an offshoot of British curry.

My single favorite thing to eat in the world is Japanese Curry. I make it weekly. Probably cooked it over a thousand times at this point. I like to add sake to mine in addition to all these ingredients. I let my meat simmer in the curry sauce first and add the vegetables later. Grate the roux when it is cold and it dissolves really easy.
@SeraphimKnight2 жыл бұрын
To avoid clumping with curry roux I usually crumble it down in a bowl and pour in a cup of boiling water, stirring until it's a thick paste. Reduce the liquid you add into the meat and vegetable by a cup and add the curry slurry as normal, stirring while incorporating. Makes for a much nicer end product without any clumps of roux.
