Technically, each berry has a flavor profile (ie pecha is sweet, rawst is bitter) so real life equivalents would be less about the literal inspiration fruit, but more the specific flavors

I know this sounds ridiculous but….sword and shield actually inspired me and my little sister to try curry for the first time. Our family was very typically “Midwestern” and didn’t experiment with a lot of foods, so we never had eaten it. We almost cried with joy when we ate it and discovered it was delicious. Now we often go out for curry and absolutely love it. So i guess what I’m trying to say is that I adore this video, because it’s a recreation of the very thing that led me and my sister to one of our new favorite foods. I can’t WAIT to make it myself!

If you decide to tackle the _bocadillo_ (sandwich) picnics from _Scarlet/Violet,_ do yourself a favor and _don't_ assemble the sandwich by dropping the ingredients from above. (And don't forget the butter to protect the bread!)

I know that a third pass on the curry would have been too much for the 'these are also in the game' section, but as a kid who grew up poor in the UK, 'Sausage Curry' was a thing we definitely ate, and we'd make it by cooking the sausages in the curry sauce with the vegetables like it was the beef you used. I have a lot of nostalgia for the meals we ate when I was young but sausage curry, yeah, not so much.

In the games, each berry actually has a flavor and texture. The Pecha berry for example is described as sweet and tender similar to a peach, while a Rawst berry is described as being very bitter, unlike a strawberry. It would be cool to see this dish made with fruit that taste and feel how they're described in the game.

I'm kind of surprised you didn't give the pasta more of a curry flavor instead of the more traditional tomato based one. Seems like the difference between them would feel kind of weird on the tastebuds when taken at the same time.

I thought that when I saw the thumbnail, but he didn't put in a bunch of herbs or anything. Straight up tomato tends to work with curry because it's a neutral/sweetish flavour which cuts through spice, and the japanese curry already has the vinegary ketchup, so it probably works better than we'd think

Edit: The yellow rice might be Pilau rice, which is always around in Indian restaurants in the UK (: As a UK person, I always felt that the Japan-style basic curry was closest to something like a Korma. That predominant sweetness is a key feature of both. I'd be interested to find out what the original dehydrated "curry" block rations that inspired this type of cuisine in Japan/the Philippines etc. was supposed to be imitating. The history of that food is really interesting.

My understanding is that the curry powder introduced to Japan during the Meiji Era by the British originated from Indian traders selling Brits a spice mix similar to garam masala that would easily replicate the flavors of Indian sauces when they returned to Britain. So, it could be said it wasn't necessarily trying to replicate any particular Indian dish, and that Japanese curry developed as an offshoot of British curry.

J. Kenji López-Alt made a video on kare raisu where he briefly explained the historical relation between British and Japanese curry. I made his curry; its much more like Coronation chicken.

From what I can remember, there were carrot, potato, onion, apple and grape (unpeeled) in the curry, and the last two made it one of the most disgusting thing we could ever had. Just saying, my elementary school was weird form lots of angles.

I love these long format videos like they are not rushed. I mean yeah the general audience wants shorter vids but I really felt like they are rushed. Anyways, these are just my two cents and hopefully Babish returns with more longer format vids (8-10 minutes)

When I heard curry pasta I thought sausage curry on penne. Used to love it has a kid, seemed to be a staple on the menu at RSLs in rural Victoria.

My single favorite thing to eat in the world is Japanese Curry. I make it weekly. Probably cooked it over a thousand times at this point. I like to add sake to mine in addition to all these ingredients. I let my meat simmer in the curry sauce first and add the vegetables later. Grate the roux when it is cold and it dissolves really easy.

Would be interesting to see some recipes from "Golden Kamui". Anything will do but the squirrel one seems fun.
