Memo to Babish: The word "toothsome" does NOT mean "firm to the tooth / al dente". It means "delicious".
@TranceFur6 сағат бұрын
Which is bizarre, seeing as no one tastes with their teeth. Personally, I hope the meaning of “toothsome” eventually evolves to mean what it sounds like it should mean.
@saltycrunch5 сағат бұрын
@ I agree, it's weird to think we taste with our teeth. Your comment made me curious so I fired up Merriam Webster. Apparently "One meaning of 'tooth' is "a fondness or taste for something specified." 'Toothsome' comes from this definition of tooth plus the suffix -some, meaning "characterized by." Although toothsome was at first used to describe general attractiveness, it quickly developed a second sense that was specific to the sense of taste (perhaps because from as far back as Chaucer's time, tooth could also refer specifically to eating and the sense of taste). For Korean Trader Joe's, probably Trader Kim's (you can't really do the same "common first name" gimmick without sacrificing the succinctness, because all traditional Korean first names have two syllables, but since all traditional last names are one syllable, you can use a common last name for the same effect).

TIL Lidl is a third thing...or fourth...
@rice_frying_shrimp7 сағат бұрын
Well they were originally just one chain that was all across the country but then iirc the kids of the founder inherited it and couldn't come to a compromise on how to run things, so they split up the market into the South and North, each being run by one of the little nepo babies with South eventually expanding internationally while North decided to mostly focus on running a tight ship with the stores they had (not forever obviously, but South already had the Aldi brand name established in the US, so North had to do something else and bought into the existing Trader Joe's brand instead). To this day incursions into enemy territory do happen and there are legal battles fought between the siblings at least once a decade because there's no hard line drawn anywhere of where the North and South begin and end, so when a new market opens up in a border region they both fight over who gets to franchise that location.

These ranking episodes are super fun played at 1.25 or 1.5 speed. It's like watching you eat a bunch of food after a few lines of coke.

We say al dente too. I really can't think of a Spanish word for it. Sabroso is more like umami. Delicioso is just tasty

It’s funny how just yesterday kitchen and jorn tried the chiles relleno and hated it because they microwaved it and now here because they baked it it gets a 10 🤣

Yeah a lot of these things got 3-4 points higher because the person cooking them took extra time and steps and has pro judgment. Though somehow he still did that beef burrito dirty.

I love how you said things taste less salty when they're hot, and then proceed to eat every dish steaming hot, struggling to get it down without blowing the hot air out.

Top selling Indian ready to eat packs are Palak Paneer and Chana Masala at Trader Joe. Most items described by you are not available at many TJ Stores But two items I mentioned earlier are sold at almost all across US. Next time while cooking Tamalees in Microwave use wrap it with wet paper towel and micro it for two minutes. Same goes with Naan but for only 30-40 seconds. However, I like your posting on TJ ready made food. Nothing comes closer anywhere in the world. TJ buyers know the real taste of every kind of food. Kudos to TJ staff.

great video!! i love the ranking videos, they're so much fun! Just a friendly FYI though, the word "es**mo" is considered a slur by Inuit peoples, it's best to avoid using it

Thank you for saying that! I did not know that. Actually I can’t say that I knew that term was meant to indicate someone was talking about Inuit people.
