I was a bartender from 21 until I was 30 (encouraged to make drinks the right way, but we had commercial mixers too). A lot of people are not conditioned to the “right” way. For example, they don’t want a traditional margarita, they want tequila with a margarita mixer. Or they want a Whiskey with Squirt, not a Whiskey Sour. Yes, that might get the job done during happy hour, and I’m all for making the customer happy (I wasn’t stuck up, snobby, or argued with anyone). But I always encouraged people to try a proper cocktail.

This episode is important. For all the attention and meticulousness that Andrew gives to his food, his relatively blasé approach to the cocktails highlights how drinks are treated by the public in general. There is a LOT more to cocktails than people realise. Many of them are so easy to make - but so difficult to make *_right_*

minor slip but rye bourbon is not possible, rye needs to be 51% or more rye in the mash bill whereas bourbon is 51% corn, basil hayden is a super high rye bourbon typically which makes it awesome for manhattans but their rye is even better and my go to!
