Love mill towns myself, they are characterful, they have magnificent civic buildings and parks, they have canals and pleasant rivers and the surviving mills offer endless development possibilities. Towns like bingley are some of britain's greatest assets. Let's walk. Stay safe.

A wonderful canalside town not too far from the big cities of Leeds and Bradford, Bingley is home to industrial heritage and history from even longer before! Let me know what you think about this fascinating town :)

So many beautiful towns in Yorkshire. The last time I was there in 2014, a friend took me to Leeds. We went to a museum there that was really interesting.... lots of Roman stuff. Aside from that, though, I thought I could have been in any big city in just about any other country. I like the small towns better. The River Aire is also host to Titus Salt's town, isn't it? I'd like to see that place if you've a mind to go there. Again, thanks so much for doing these. I love that part of the world.

Absolutely! Yorkshire's full of incredible history - much of which goes back millennia! I'll have a Leeds video for you some day soon, but there are certainly a lot of small towns for you to look forward to exploring too :) And yes! Saltaire is just a short walk down the Aire from Bingley - it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site too, so quite the sight! I'm looking forward to filming there one day too! I live 2p minutes walk from Saltaire World Heritage site, Titus Salt's place. 15 minutes drive from where the Brontes lived (Wuthering Heights, etc... Japanese ladies love it).

Used to be one of the best pub-crawling towns in West Yorkshire. It's a shame the once peaceful walk along the canal has been ruined by the traffic noise on the by-pass.

I often see the “Damart” tower on the carriage way. You can see it after the roundabout from Crossflats. edit: there are multiple bridges, after you pass the damart tower, you can see the britannia footbridge

Loved the video - buckets of nostalgia having grown up in the town between 40-50 years ago. Lost touch when my parents moved away about a decade or so back. My mum was quite a keen local historian and would suggest that the town name comes from the Viking Bui, derived from 'Bui-Ing-Ley' essentially 'the town/clearing (Ley) of the descendents (Ing) of Bui'. I'm sure debate continues. For my part, when I was young, we used to play on the Butter Cross and stocks which at the time was a fine sight in the Prince of Wales Park up the side of the valley above the town. In the late 19th century it was moved from the town centre to the park as the Victorians created quite grand public spaces. The Butter Cross only moved back around 1984 and the park was a shadow of its former glory when my parents left the area but you can still see the Victorian gravel base where the cross stood at goo.gl/maps/EEzvwpm8m9zsS8S66. The whole structure still looks strange to me down in the town rather than surrounded by trees even though that is closer to its original home. Anyway, many, many thanks - really enjoyed watching this and having the written commentary along with it. Nice work.
