Im currently working for a tree trimming company and were still on Blake hitch set up with an old Buckingham ham harness. I just ordered one to see if it help cause Blake's hitch method is tiring 😫
@aliray11653 жыл бұрын
Blake’s hitch method is TERRIBLE. You need to upgrade. Unfortunately there are multiple ways to do that. Prusik cord is an upgrade to Blake’s hitch. But the best one to do ASAP is potentially use a distel with pulley and caribiner. This can be converted to srt with rope wrench for Minimal cost. If you can afford it jump straight to zig zag, and that in turn can be upgraded to srt with the chicane.

@BinoH3 жыл бұрын
In walking it's very load but as you go up the tree it's not so bad but it can depend on how quickly you move your foot. I think it's a little loader than the CT and petzl but I'm never really concerned about noise.

Is it possible to use pulley to earn mechanical advantage while ascending?
@BinoH3 жыл бұрын
If you have a foot ascender a pulley would be good to tend the line. In SRS you can get a mechanical advantage with a pulley usually after you've reach the height you want by installing a pulley to the running end of your line.

Hi Bino , i recently found your channel while searching for the easiest way to get up a rope for saddle hunting. I never really knew anything about the way arborist climbs trees until i found you. The knee and foot assender look like a great combo ! I'm curious if your a hunter or if you know anyone who is that uses this method and any pros and cons? And i don't know the correct terms but is their is their a way to use this with 2 ropes? (1 rope over the crotch hanging down makes 2 ) Your a great teacher thanks for sharing your knowledge !
@BinoH3 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary, I'm not a hunter but it sound like you're asking about an MRS system. The Moving Rope System also known as the Double Rope System, you could use this in hunting to go up a tree. I made a video called How to use a traditional tie in. you could use an ascender with I made video named MRS Tree Climbing with a Foot and Knee ascender. Check them out it may give you an idea. Its the best if you want to practice putting your rope back into a bulky ascender over and over again. Arbpro clip n step is the goat. Pop it off and stick it in your pocket when you're finished.
@BinoH3 жыл бұрын
Thank for sharing, but isnt Arbpro clip n step a boot?
@seang62643 жыл бұрын
@@BinoH Yes, and you can buy a strap with the same detachable plate connector if you dont want to buy the boot. You can pop it off and leave the strap on your boot, so you're not banging the ascender around the tree while not in use. It also has a clip that simultaneously locks the ascender onto the plate and holds the rope from falling out. You can do backflips up there and it won't fall out. I used the notch, loved it, as its easy to clip on and holds better than say the petzl, and loved the double cam system, but ArbPro has it down pat. Give it a go. Sorry if my prior post sounded arrogant. Just a smart ass
@timgrant17964 ай бұрын
If you use a foot ascender, it should NEVER kick out by accident. That could be a life-threatening situation. It cannot be good to require perfect technique to avoid danger. I am tossing my Notch Jet Step for that reason. It works well and is good on the rope, but it kicks out way too easily and when I'm 20+ feet off the ground and away from the tree and dodging limbs, it's just too much to expect perfect form to prevent a kick out and subsequent problems, especially when carrying saws and other heavy equipment.

Honestly...the jet step kinda sucks. We employ numerous climbers (full time), bought a few jet step ascenders, and everyone hates them. Confusing, bulky, hard to tighten, small straps, very uncomfortable and even painful at times. Notch makes some great "cheaper" gear but this is not cheap or great. I'd like to comment on the durability of the dual cams and shoe string straps but no one has used it more than 3 weeks before they come back crying about it and wanting ANYTHING else. As a production tree climber of nearly 20 years...do not buy this ascender. We have a few that are now just paper weights and am considering throwing them in the trash.
@BinoH3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience. I do have to say that it is still new to me but I have not found it to be painfull or difficult to install. Time will tell how durable it is. Take care!

I appreciate the personal experience feedback, as I understand everyone has preferences and differences especially when it comes to climbing. I think when adding your opposing view you also should add your personal favorites or options you consider better and why, as it benefits the discussion more. As someone new trying to explore every option, hearing someone talk negative about a beloved ascender by many without any suggestions or alternatives leaves me worse off.
