BINSTAX - Mamiya RB67 Fuji Instax Adapter

Hi guys! I'm Han who actually makes the binstax. Thank you Willy for the review and hope everything is going well with you now! I was hospitalized around the same time last year as Willy so I guess that makes us sick friends *ba dum tssss To address the two main issues Willy pointed out with binstax: I've actually considered making the crank somehow foldable and I'd definitely implement it if I was to design the binstax from the ground up, but since it's basically a modified instax SQ1, I have yet come up with a functional design that is also good looking. Plus it's more robust this way with less moving parts. But I'll look to improve the crank over the next iterations. Or just grab a bigger camera bag, man. Regarding the door latch: it is in fact raised ever so slightly above the door by 0.2 mm or 8 thou, so it's possible for the dark slide to catch the latch while you're inserting it into the holder. I've made the dark slide holder in a way to make up for the raised door latch, so that's probably the best I can do for now. It does not happen very often if you get the hang of it. I started the binstax project due to popular request about a year ago and you can read how it came to be on the update page: zins.tax/updates, if you're into some nerdy stuff. Thank you Willy again for the amazing review! Also the white binstax Willy showcased in the video is the only fully white one out there, since I had massive light leak issues with the translucent white ABS/PC plastic and couldn't find a reliable remedy. I ended up scrapping 2800€ worth of parts and had to order another batch for 4000€.

Thanks Han for making these! I got mine at the end of December and absolutely love it. Before 2016 most of my photos were shot on FP-100C, so getting a serious replacement has been a journey. I’ve tried most of the available instax alternatives (Lomography, MiNT, Fujifilm) and Binstax is probably my favorite, certainly the best image quality by a mile. Big props to you for the design and finishing, it is top notch!

The power cuts are terrible at the moment haha, it's getting to the point where it's a giant headache to work around them since they're so long lasting and frequent, don't have a power backup as of yet but am continuously looking into it! Just a very expensive venture unfortunately

HEEEEEEEy, it's nice to see you again all well and good! btw the purpose of the bar is to grab a corner of the instax film and push it so the rollers grab it and it's in all instaxes (although some models might implement different type of latching) in some form. it's just missing the sticker and moves automatically upon exposure.

Thank you!! ☺️ to be honest for general use I’d say the V is the one to go for, it’s pretty weird metering underwater since the light does weird stuff and having the V which has the meter built in or can even shoot auto is a huge plus

They're also easier to tinker with since they just pop into two parts, however it's harder to find replacement seals for them and the original ones are so old at this point that it's a bit of a roll of the dice with whether it will stand up to being actually used in the water! I really like mine, it's just as I say the metering scenario is a bit of a schlep haha!

It was an eeeexcellent financial move in my opinion, has been so nice to keep it on hand and use it for stuff that might not be worthwhile on the Portra but is still worth photographing. Feels so much less intense than normal rb photographing for me too ahah!

Welcome Back! Immensely happy to see this. Frequent and regular uploads are "only" for optimizing for the algorithm to give you more exposure. Important for your income for sure, albeit indirectly. But the quality of your videos is just top-notch and waiting for a new upload from you is *more than worth the wait*. Your recovery and health are paramount! What a lovely Idea the Binstax/Zinstax is! A proper camera to expose that film finally. The shots you showed were excellent. I'd be interested into how it compares to portra (or frankly any positive or negative film) in terms of quality...to get a feel what the quality loss there actually is.
