The Binturong looks like the mix between a bear, a cat, and a monkey, but they’re more than the sum of their weird-looking parts.

He looked like a dust mop, but he seemed relaxed around people. I never petted him because I didn't know anything about their behavior. For all I knew, he could wrap his prehensile tail around my neck and implant an embryo in me like Aliens.

It's actually a smart question. Lots of humans cook bready substances in the forest. Are they messing with the heads of these creatures? Probably not. Almost everything has a better sense of smell than people. Although male Ocelots can be lured to certain areas by certain branded perfume, which apparently smells enough like their mates to interest them.

Well, that’s funny about the popcorn because it’s actual name “binturong” in Talag-Lut Malay literally means “kettle popped rice from the anus”... “bintu” being a local puffed/popped rice snack made with a black iron kettle over a fire with rice grains popping in heated palm oil, and “rong” being anything coming from your backside, like “Bup-rong” being a poo, “Elu-rong” being diarrhea, and “Papat-rong” meaning breaking wind/flatulence. So “binturong” or popped corn(rice) - ass, is a pretty adept nomenclature for a mammal that makes a savory popcorn-like scent with its anal scent glands.

If I remember correctly, Earth is estimated to hold at least 8 million species, and scientists have only discovered about 15% of those species. Many of these species reside in the ocean, and many more than likely will go extinct before being discovered. However, I could be wrong. I'd the best is to research it on your own; my mom has always told me to do that. Lol.

I’m a Southeast Asian, and I know palm cultivation is not the root cause. The root causes are the human population explosion and the bad system, as well as the bad education there. If we just reject palm oil, the people there will find other plants to cultivate on the land, or even cut down more forest trees for the living.

It's very easy for them to point their fingers to developing nations while not understanding how it is here, when they achieved their wealth through similar means of exploitation. It's laughable that they get the "moral highground" in this, while still doing what they always do to us for hundreds of years - cripple our development. They stole resources then, this time it's boycott and slander

At 5:21, I think it's an oversimplification to equate palm oil with lauryl sulfate, which can come from other sources, such as coconut oil. A laurel (the kind you rest on) is a palm leaf, but I don't think it's necessarily related to lauryl sulfate. Perhaps a chemist could weigh in with an opinion.

I remember seeing this thing in a zoo when I was little. It scared me shitless but at the same time it looked fuckin' badass, like he was the sole survivor of a major battle, scars included.

They’ve been one of my favorites for a few years. I went to the San Diego zoo hoping to see one, but it wasn’t on display due to construction. I’ll see you someday!

downtown denver aquarium has one that you can do a meet and greet with. The one they had was named Yuni and she climbed all over me and ate pretty much all the fruit mix i offered her in my hand.

*So I literally just came here from the "4 levels of Meatball" video that's trending, where they educated me about the Maillard reaction. What are the chances the next video I watch (this one) would be discussing the same thing? It's honestly a really weird coincidence, hearing Maillard reaction twice within the same 10 minutes...*
