This farmer Jack McAndrew has the kindest face ive ever seen, hes the salt of the earth. Once Rudolf Steiner came to me in my dream and spoke to me, i saw a beautiful golden spiral next to me it was my daughters hair, he said she is the connection between the cosmos and the earth. And she loves Rudolf Steiner and biodynamics. Its so beautiful to teach children about biodynamics

Its kind of a chicken and the egg thing. Yes, giant mass production factory farms feed billions, but those billions would not be there in the first place if not for giant mass production factory farms. They're providing solutions to problems they themselves created. Now its virtually impossible to go back to a more decentralized and sustainable means of food production for such a large population.

@@denisl2760 very true. But it wasn’t that long ago that it was normal to have your own vegetable garden. Maybe we can reclaim some sovereignty by growing at least some of our own food and/or supporting our local farmer. Whilst being more discerning about where those chickens and eggs actually come from! I remain hopeful!

corporate farms will do whatever is the most affordable to produce their crops. They know that there will have to be increases in fertilizer and minerals each year due to soil depletion. It is NOT sustainable and more fresh soil will have to be found. Organic is the way to go. The science proves it. We rotated crops, applied manure, and were able to keep fertilizer to a minimum. We still maintained healthy fields with profitable harvests. The difference is the heartless lack of spirituality of the corporate monsters. They only care about one seasons profit. If they need to add more fertilizer to maximize production they do not hesitate. Greed and farming are counter productive in the long run.

Being a composter for many years, I always felt there's a spiritual element in composting: probably the most primitive cycle that keeps life on earth and inside us. However, this guy is way higher than my orbit.

I got to see a soil sample under a microscope yesterday. The idea of us all being 'one' can feel like spiritual speak, but seeing all these little beings about their business really brings it home. Over the years, those compost piles of yours have created so much life. That's a higher orbit than most.

Big ag feeds most of the world, but praise the Lord they feed me very little. I grow most of my own food and love doing it. I sow the seed and the Lord brings the rain and the sunshine.

If he would ad a certain percentage of wood chips to the mix it would be an even better compost. It would create a long term nutrient source for fungi which are very beneficial for the soil and the crops that you grow. I don't want to go in too much detail here, but for the best growth and insect protection you want to have a fungi dominated soil.

this compost would be a lot better with things from the sea added. things like kelp, crab, lobster, shrimp and fish. The compost I use is called Benson's Surf and Turf. It's made right here in Maine with thngs from the land and sea of Maine. It's the best, so there is no way that his can also be the best...

Very true, the basic process for a compost is very simple. The ingredients you use will make a big difference to the nutrient quality and the diversity of microbes within the pile. Water, heat and airflow also influence the micro life in the pile.

Great video. However: the big ag feeding the world statement is not false, but I would rather say: the big ag feeds the food industry that is feeding large part of the world. No big ag - no food industry, no Nestle, no Coca-Cola, at least not as gigantic corporations.

I’d like to see the small local farmer, community gardens and kitchen gardens making a global come back. Then people have more of a choice and are less reliant on the gigantic corporations for food. Start small think big. 🌱

Technically yes they feed the world, but they mainly feed livestock, if we ate even a little less meat, it would be very different and they also feed our cars, biofuels are a shame, a waste of resources that pollute more than if there were none..

Less meat and quality if you do choose to eat meat, supporting farmers in their transition from old style ranching to regenerative agriculture. Buying locally reduces fuel dependency, so it's win win.

Or just higher quality meats from sustainable agriculture. "No meat" is another fat lie from powerful companies and governments keeping people controllable. Correctly managed animals make gardens better, grasslands better, and the planet better. :)

@@aw6707I don't want to sound aggressive but I want examples of governments or powerful companies that make more noise and spend more money than the meat industry. Because what is in place has been in place for more than 50 years, they have the money and their places in the governments. In my country it will be forbidden to use terms like steak, or sausage to designate a product without meat, all that to "protect consumers", it's true that they are too stupid to know that "vegetable steak" means without meat... Personally, I would like the first price steaks, or other low-priced processed products to read "chopped corpse of a culled dairy cow, inseminated every year until death, deprived of its children at birth, slaughtered in gestation" It's to protect ignorant consumers, in this case it's really ignorant consumers.

@@gauvaindf certainly. And yes the large corporation-based meat industry very much is as powerful as a small government. It's a struggle for power between them and a government/other industries that would also like to control what we eat, see, think, and do. Ignorance is a part of both sides as you correctly noted. Eating animals is entirely separate from these politics though. A good cow on native pasture will fix more carbon than emitted as methane - quite the opposite of a feed lot or factory farm. But doing that would promote freedom and independence. The government wants to supply your welfare check as cheaply as possible to get your votes as cheaply as possible. The meat industries just want a paycheck and if cheap easy food for government assistance or unthinking people does it they are happy. *not your welfare check personally- to people struggling that need help and don't see a way out

@@gauvaindf I agree. A documentary called "Milked' was an eye opener for. me. Sadly it's not just the meat and dairy industry. We need 'glyphosate ripened, fungicide/ herbicide added' this list goes on and on. But having seen the possibilities of regenerative farming, I'm hopeful.

I will always be grateful to the biodynamic gardening community. After reading all about how the key to growing food on the American continent was mystical preparations of European plants and cattle manure I knew that the whole idea was a pile of shit. It’s not necessarily a bad approach but it’s completely out of place so I stopped even considering it.
