Grover Cleveland's brother, William, was my great great grandfather. My grandfather met Grover once when he was a toddler, but he didn't remember the visit. However, Cleveland's wife, Frances, who my grandfather referred to as "Great Aunt Frank", stayed in contact until the end of her life. In fact she and her second husband attended my grandfather's wedding in 1926.

As a Hawaii college student in the early 1990's, I was given the assignment to choose any presidential speech and deliver it in class. Most the students selected either a favorite or a recent inaugural address. However, there was one outstanding individual who delivered a speech that stood apart and ahead from all the others. His speech was that of President Grover Cleveland. What made his presentation so memorable was that it was a passionate plea by President Cleveland to NOT ANNEX the Hawaiian Islands into the United States of America. The speech was filled with numerous reasons why annexation would become problematic for both the local natives and the U.S. After hearing this well delivered speech, I was more than impressed with Grover Cleveland's remarkably clear vision of the unforeseen problems that first annexation and then American statehood would surreptitiously bestow upon Hawaii's native shores.

If you want meritocracy, you can't in good conscience vote for either party. A shame, all societies should be based on merit, it's what drives us to greatness!

@lightningshy5287 much as it pains me, he's been leading in the polls in several swing states. In PA alone they've been gloating that currently there's 80k more registered Republicans than Democrats. And the state was decided in 2020 by only 25k votes. Similar situations in GA NC and MI. If we wanna win this election we gotta make up alot of ground in a short time. Harris 2024!!

I teach government and use these as background history, particularly the lesser known presidents. Good length for a class period and gets the important details. I'd love to see Jackson or some of the Buchanan-adjacent presidents like Tyler or Pierce covered!

Considering that most of these episodes contain common mistakes is pretty terrible for your classes.

These are pretty bad for your class. If you want videos fit for education, check out Extra Credits. They do series on whole events and at the end do a "lies" segment where they correct the wrongs they told/stated.

These are far too long for your classes. Knowing Cleveland’s biography does not have any test worthy questions on a government test. I teach AP Government btw.

As a resident of Hawai'i, we view Grover Cleveland positively here because he refused to recognize the coup launched against the Native Hawaiian monarchy and refused to annex Hawai'i. His successor McKinley is the President who illegally annexed Hawai'i. One thing I will change here is the fact William McKinley has a high school named for him and all Grover Cleveland has is a small park.
