If Jammu and Kashmir are still parts of the motherland then the only person who gets credit is Jagmohan. He played a pivotal role in preserving the territorial integrity of India unmindful of who was in power what their politics was. A true patriot and loyal son of the land. Hats off.

Reason US went with Pakistan was because they thought countering Soviets in Afghanistan (holy war 1979) and India would be easy from Pakistan. They funded Zia Ul haq's govt. at that time to indirectly provide support to local warlords in Afghanistan against Soviets. And Pakistan used some of that money to run militancy in areas of insurgency in India. NOT BECAUSE PAKISTAN WAS STRONG ISLAMIC COUNTRY. Also USSR supported India not because its a friend. But because they had a very strong hold in Indian politics as india was opting for Socialism. At that time its rumoured to have its around 300+ KGB spies in India. It was a war of ideology.

He had the quality of strait forwardness in carryingout his assignments. He was highly respected civil servant among all those who held the country and the rule of law above everything else.

Exodus of Kashmiri pandits can not be blamed on Jagmohan ji, because he was appointed governer at 3.30am on 19 Jan 1990, by pm Gujral ,and from dehli due to snow fall and traffic jam he reached on 21 Jan, till then most of process of Exodus was completed
