How does GLOBAL WARMING work? In this video, the biologist Jubilut explains what Global Warming is, how it works and what are the main causes of climate change.
In recent years, extreme events such as storms, floods and heat waves are becoming more and more intense and frequent. This has everything to do with global warming, a phenomenon that is causing the Earth's average temperature to rise and causing a global climate crisis.
The Earth's atmosphere is composed of several gases, including gases that absorb heat, such as CO2. These gases are known as greenhouse gases, because this absorption of heat causes an effect known as the greenhouse effect, which keeps planet Earth warm.
The greenhouse effect is essential for the planet, without it the planet would not be hot enough, the big problem is the effect being intensified. And humans are interfering with the atmosphere, increasing the greenhouse effect and causing what we call Global Warming.
One of the main responsible for this warming is the excessive production of CO2 by human activity. And CO2 is one of the gases in the atmosphere that absorbs heat and spreads it back to the surface.
There is a consensus in science that global warming is being caused by humans, 99.9% of scientists agree that climate change is caused by us.
Warming is happening faster than scientists thought. The latest projections show that, in the best case scenario, the planet's temperature will rise by 1.5 degrees Celsius over the next two decades. And it is very important that we stay below this value of 1.5 degrees, because the consequences if we go beyond that will be devastating.
The consequences of global warming are climate change, such as an increase in the number of hot days, storms, droughts, melting glaciers, rising sea levels, ocean acidification and species extinction.
In the next episodes of the Climate Change WebSeries you will understand more about greenhouse gases, the consequences of climate change, what these changes are causing in Brazil, their economic impacts, and the solutions to the problem of climate change.
