Avery, MacLeod & McCarty Experiment | Class 12 | NEET Biology

Oswald Avery, Colin MacLeod, and Maclyn McCarty (1933-1944) showed that DNA (not proteins) can transform the properties of cells, clarifying the chemical nature of genes. Avery, MacLeod and McCarty identified DNA as the "transforming principle" while studying Streptococcus pneumoniae, bacteria that can cause pneumonia.

I really love your explanations but Avery, MacLeod and McCarty performed the experiment in "In vitro" system (outside the body of the host) they just observed in a Petri dish, that the addition of which enzyme turned the surface of R-strain bacteria from rough to smooth. They did not inject it in the mice.
