You forgot to mention, that IgE is capable to communicate via the high-affinity fc receptor with eosinophils, which are with mast cells the best weapon against parasites. It can also protect you against venom, because it can trigger the most rapid and severe reaction of your immune system. An example: The venom of hornets is as venomous as the venom of rattlesnakes, but the dose is not lethal. The reaction: Rashes, redness and a big swelling that is associated with pain and severe itching, just within seconds to minutes. This happens, because venom-specific IgE is released. Today, especially in industrial nations, parasitic infections and poisonings aren’t really spread around. This is, why the IgE-mediated branch of the immune system did began to attack harmless substances like pollen.
