Festo has created BionicBee, an autonomous robot that swarms like a bee. The behavior could have many benefits in a biomimetic robot swarm. Applications for the technique exist in both the civilian and the military world.

I wonder if they will use counterbalances like flys have to smooth out their wing beats, or a two pair version like a dragon fly, and allow the wings pitch control, to rotate forward into forward flight, and then back to vertical for landings. So cool!

If they're gonna make something like this, give it the ability to pollinate so we can stop freaking out over honey bees going extinct, since they're the number 1 pollinators worldwide and there isn't a single creature on this planet that even compares to their level of pollination.
