You are absolutely right. I loved these movies as a kid. I'm now 17 and it's nearly been a decade since I last saw any of these, and now I just happened to find this one on youtube, I am so happy for this. There's only one I haven't watched which is legend reborn, and I only found out it existed very recently eventhough it's from 2009. I think I'll watch that some time soon.

I've always thought that Vakama was always the wise leader but then I realized that he wasn't like that when he was in his youth: he was impatient, rushing, and always find the easy way out to solve problems. He must have felt pressured as leader. Fortunately he met someone who taught how to deal with his insecurities
@patricklenigan4309
@patricklenigan4309 3 жыл бұрын
Funny you should mention his old insecurities. In fact, I believe that is why Vakama kept being picked out of the group in legends of Metru Nui and Web of Shadows...because of the insecurities.
@NLoett
@NLoett 2 жыл бұрын
I know this comment is two years old, but I'm feeling compelled to reply. There are two books that follow the Toa Metru from after Legends of Metru Nui and before the events of Web of Shadows. The second of these books really show him turning into more of a brash and hot-headed leader, but it also tells us why. Mainly, he was mad at himself. He had failed to rescue the Matoran in time and he really blamed himself for Lhikan's death. He figured he had failed because he wasn't as strong a leader as he should've been, that he should have been more decisive and confident. As we can see in the beginning of the film, he overcompensated. The Hordika venom most certainly didn't help either. Hence, we can see why he was so easily turned by Roodaka. I'll admit, I was annoyed with Vakama in this film when I was a kid, but looking back as an adult I can understand a bit better. He was a toa for maybe a week before his entire universe was basically (and almost literally) turned upside-down. Everyone he had ever known except for five strangers were stuck in comas, his home had been destroyed, and his hero died right in front of him. If you don't develop some issues from all of that, there might actually be something wrong with you.

Got more: - Sidorak took credit for the mutation of the Toa Hagah, resulting in Makuta appointing him king of the visorak. - Roodaka is also the one who turned former Toa Nidiki into the insect creature you see in Bionicle 2, which she did to garner favor from the dark hunters, as Nidiki considered deserting the dark hunters and returning to the toa. - Sidorak and krekka both originate from the same home island: Stelt.

The opening of this movie has one of my personal favorite pieces of original score of all time. Admittedly, it isn't as great without context of the prior 2 films. But with full context, you can listen to the score on it's own, and get a complete grasp on exactly what is going on. Nathan Furst is such an underrated musician, and I'm gutted that he doesn't get to work on more major films. He establishes such a clear vision of the heroes and villains with their respective musical motifs. The big thumping villainous thuds. The bright and calm village themes. The triumphant recurring theme of the Toa, and the brooding Makuta theme. His work on these movies, to me, genuinely stands up there along side stuff like the Star Wars movies. Which sounds crazy to say, but I genuinely feel that way. For as much as these movies are a relic of their time, and aren't anything special. The music is absolutely phenomenal.

Sidorak calling Roodaka his "queen" only for her to correct him saying "not yet" is actually a pretty well written exchange that basically sums up their entire relationship. And Sidorak brushing this off as "formalities" just shows that he totally doesn't get the hint. Great way to set up the characters and foreshadow the conclusion to this small character arc. Not bad, Bionicle writers. Not bad.

The music from 1:11:15 - 1:12:15 is some of the most nostalgic music I have ever heard in my life, rewatching these movies and hearing that again in the credits genuinely brought a few tears down my cheeks. Remembering the amount of joy a line of constructable toy action figures brought me. What I find interesting about the Hordika form in Bionicle is it acts as a kind of midlife crisis. Toa represented adulthood, young, powerful, and full of heroic deeds. While Hordika represented the idea of questioning one's own abilities as they get older.

I got introduced to Bionicle around 2009 when the Bara Magna story arc was in. Granted, it was really late in the game. But as soon as I discovered the story that came before, I found myself stepping into a breathtaking realm of storytelling that isn't really matched by much else today. Especially the films and comics. It kind of makes me wish there could be a full-fledged indie film project to continue the story at the Ignition arc (Inika and Piraka, Mahri and Barraki, Phantoka/Mystica and Makuta army).

Gathered friends, listen again to our legend of the *_BIONICLE._* In the time before time, six mighty Toa vanquished the Makuta, encasing him in protodermis, held tight by the force of their combined elemental powers. Before becoming Turaga, the Toa united in a dutiful pledge to rescue the Matoran who were imprisoned by the Makuta. And so, they returned to their once glorious home, with every intention of enacting a great rescue. But Makuta had not left the sleeping Matoran unprotected! Their resting place was guarded by a *ruthless king,* a _horde of poisoners,_ and a *_malevolent queen._* And now, the noble Toa must face a _Web of _*_Shadows...._*

Honestly I feel really bad for the Visorak. Sure, they're portrayed as terrifying creatures with their dripping venom and woodchipper faces, but they're living in perpetual fear of their leaders to the point where it drives their every action. They're often shown to be shaking just by being in Roodaka's presence, and when she commands the Boggarak to jump off, they demonstrated their belief that death would be better than whatever Roodaka's punishment for disobedience would be. The books and comics go further, showing Roodaka killing them just for carrying news that didn't agree with her, and a Roporak even once thought to itself how nice it would be to endlessly sleep like the Matoran just to be free of its fear of Roodaka before it banished the thought out of fear of its mind being read. The most satisfying part of the movie for me was when Vakama ordered them to be free, and they just all turned and left without a backwards glance. They may still be a threatening species even once freed, but it's better for them not to be enslaved to Roodaka and Sidorak. Also the janitor deserves a medal.

I'm coming back here from the age of 19. For me, the best moment will always be at 1:02:42 - the metaphysical music calms, Vakama's cannon ignites, and he speaks three simple words - "a certain Toa." To this day I can't explain why, but still remember how as a child this brief moment struck me as the point where, after the two films before this, I felt the Bionicle had earned its place in the infinity-verse of fiction, where it had stepped forward with an identity of it's own, and won. From then on, the Bionicle were my heroes, and they always will be...

That is, after they carried those few Matoran Spheres to the shore, they went back to rescue the rest of the Matoran, and this movie is the result of that.

I was noticing theres alot of parallels to Vakama and Nidhiki. A fallen Toa sides with Dark Hunters, turns against his brothers. Except the roles are reversed. Lhikan couldn't save his brother but Matau did.

Dang, I remember watching this in a really poor quality dvd because in Vietnam they used to have lots of fake and poor quality disc for kids, it’s like watching 240p quality buts still it was a great childhood. Thank you for reliving my childhood

How many movies can you think of where the comic relief concedes what fault is his in the issue at hand, takes it upon himself to save a friend, deliberately putting himself in danger to achieve it whilst being fully expectant/willing to die doing do so (but succeeding anyway), and still having enough left over to pilot six aircraft at once and make a tickle spinner joke? Web of Shadows Matau = Awesome

41:14 This part is COMEDY GOLD. Hell, even Matau is starting to sound a bit like if he's voiced by Sonny Strait (you know the one, he's the dude that did TOM 1, Krillin and Usopp).

OMG 10:12 to me is so legendary! I was born in a different country and I didn't know English. I told my mom to translate this part and she told me. Till this day I haven't forgotten. I was 6 back then and I'm almost 24 now.

That would be pretty awkward if your first and only phrase known in English was “bring me their bodies”…
