If you could be so kind as to please consider posting all of the lectures, I would be eternally grateful. These few videos have helped further my understanding of physics, chemistry, and biology a great deal. They’ve been quite helpful in allowing me to approach my lab research with myriad perspectives, all with vastly different scopes

This lecture is truly amazing thank you for sharing your knowledge with me, I want to be a biophysicist when I grow up

Firstly, THANKS for uploading such great, clear, straightforward no nonsense lectures. I had desperately hoped to find someone like this for a long time! Secondly, general question about the biomedical research sector and doctors' attitude: If they know that an allergy can kill you during surgery, why don't they test the patients' blood against the unaesthetic? I have severe allergies myself and knowing that Drs simply ignore us as a minority is quite scary! I've read on a scientific paper, on NCBI no less, where Drs would keep pushing the idea that vaccines are safe because only 1 person per 100.000 dies =10 people every 1.000.000. I don't understand why hospital staff and researchers also don't even try to use perfectly available tools to avoid risking our lives.

It's not simply a matter of a plain allergy, just that there are rare cases when a patient might react adversely against the entire cocktail of anaesthesia given in the operating room, in particular if a patient has severe preexisting conditions. They are most definitely using the best tools available, and have made tremendous progress the last decades, it's just that life science isn't perfect, and we simply can't predict everything from a blood test.

@@eriklindahl Hello Dr Lindahl, I have no idea whether you will ever read this message but I would like to add something to your reply hoping you will be able to clarify. I have severe allergies myself, and when I had surgery doctors were instead extremely resistant to provide any allergy tests at all, yet in the EU we sign papers where doctors decline responsibilities if patients die during surgery. Personally, I have worked in social care for over a decade, again, patients with allergies were not given the opportunity to have access to any exams to prevent death ir general reactions. My own adverse reactions to prescribed antibiotics could have been prevented multiple times, the child you showed the image of, he most probably would have benefited from a test as this would have at least indicated that there was a risk. I strongly believe that researchers could push clinicians in the right direction when it comes to life saving actions. In my experience, patients are not a priority but rather a tool to advance careers and try new treatments whenever suitable. As harsh as this may sound, unfortunately, twelve years of work with disabilities strongly supports my point. Do you think researchers could influence clinicians' behaviour when it comes to medical minorities and take adequate actions to try and prevent tragedies?

The last statement about chemists not being as near as 'smart' as phycists is truly insulting. I am NOT a chemist. But I now learning that the egos of physicists is massively large. And in my opinion the reason why research moves so carefully slowly in many areas of research. The brain is structured in different ways, and different abilities mean growth. I am starting to believe that going around with such big egos is an handicap to both physicists and scientific progress. I am a tutor and a student, I am a HUGE fan of Dr Lidahl's work and kindness to share knowledge. But, a little humility would greatly benefit the entire field. That's MY personal opinion.

Thank you for the lecture, Dr. Lindahl. I'd like to ask what would you suggest biology student to study before taking a biophysics course?
@marawanahmed78294 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing Dr Erik, I just want to confirm that the Biophysical chemistry course and the biophysics course are identical, as I have observed that the lectures of the biophysical chemistry course are slightly longer and I am not sure if the content is the same in both courses, would you please confirm?

That's cause it's the same subject.

These are old (and pretty crappy) recordings I used to make each year simply as a service to students who couldn't attend the class physically. I plan to remove them after this year, when I've completed all 13-14 lectures into a new much more professional recording format. See separate playlists for those.

@@eriklindahl Thanks Dr Erik. I remember a few years ago you promised to post an advanced course on your channel. Not sure if you still have the plan in place!
