When Booker lets all the Elizabeth's drown him, she erases every version of Comstock there is in the multiverse due to the baptism being the branching point. Saving New York which gets attacked in 1984 in the bad future, though also erasing herself from the timelines, and thus breaking the stable time loop The post credit scene could be seen as the multiverse, in order to correct the timelines sending Booker into a dimension where he didn't sell his daughter. Allowing him to live a normal life

I just had a thought. Throughout the game, characters from the AUs would remember/experience things that happened in Elizabeth/Booker’s universe (eg. the guards that were dead/alive). Given this knowledge, maybe our Booker wasn’t drowned after all; and just was experiencing pre-Comstock’s death. Then, like after the “baptism” at the start of the game, he wakes up, at the point before Comstock came into his and Anna’s life as the timeline fixed itself. Either way, when you think about it, this last “baptism” actually *does* offer Booker rebirth of sorts, a second chance to live with Anna.

While we might like to think that Booker and Anna (Elizabeth) will end up living a ordinary, happy life together as father and daughter, I have bad feeling about the post credit scene. In this timeline, Booker is still a deeply depressed widower suffering from gambling addiction, alcoholism, and not to mention PTSD from the massacre of Wounded Knee. To make things worst, knowing what happens later in history, Anna will spend her life living through the Great Depression plus two World Wars!:(

But it's obvious that, in the post credit scene, Booker has the knowledge of the Booker who exists throughout the whole game. You can tell because he's obviously confused when he hears Anna crying in the other room. This isn't just the ordinary depressed Booker, its's the Booker that understands EVERYTHING. So I believe that he will take this opportunity to become a great father. This multiverse is the one option where Booker and Anna can be together and live a happy life.

I just thought the post-credits scene confirmed this entire game is like a Mr.Nobody adaption to Bioshock. It's not entirely the same, I know, but what if this was all just a very weird, mad, bad dream? What if drowning Booker wakes him up and makes him realize how much he loves his child? Think of it, Booker went to the baptism before he had this child. If the drowning was real, there would be no reality to return to where Anna is alive since he would be dead in all of them.
@claudeyaz7 жыл бұрын
Google made me do it mr noboday wasn't all a dream. It was another quantum mechanics story. Since the boy had not made the choice yet. All the possibilities branching from both choices both existed at once. Even when he "made" choices. Other existences where other choices were "made." Actively existed. No it was all a dream crap there lol.

Ultimately, when Elizabeth starts playing spirit guide with booker, she says the stars are really lighthouses of infinity. She takes him "there". But where is there? Where is she physically when they are in the space between lighthouses? It's not just another "probability". She somehow has gained cosmic awareness of a physical space in between realities. When she drown booker, they are at some place outside of when it really happened because the crowd is not there nor is the preacher.

I believe he remembers what he has been through, since when he says "Anna", it sounds more like a question or reassurance that she is in her room.

It seems that you missed my point. Alright, Luteces had seen what would happen if Comstock kept Elizabeth and so they brought her real father, Booker to bring her back to where she came. They had to change the plan when She didn't want to go back and decided to just help them erase the whole dimention. Then, for some reason when Booker dies, he's very aware of it. Hence the respawn scene AND the post credits scene. When he respawns, it seems his consciousness is sent back to another Booker.

Yeah that could also be true. :-) I think this is what Ken Levine wanted, people talking about the ending, coming up with their own conclusions. :-D

I mean, yes they do experience the World Wars and the great depression but after seeing this game, they seem better than the distorted city of Columbia. I don't want to debate, I just see them growing closer though those times instead of away.
@JazGalaxy11 жыл бұрын
I dunno. I disagree. My problems understanding the game come earlier. There IS a spiritual component that exists in the Bioshock universe. For instance, Booker has a vision of the burning future before any of the characters involved experience that. When Elizabeth asks him if he thinks people really can see the future, he explains that he had a vision that he felt was from the future. Similarly, Booker has visions that occur of him in his apartment with Elizabeth as an adult waiting on him.

This game just mindfucked me so hard. God seriously such a good game though. I have nothing but praise for it. Also, I noticed in Chen Lin's death tear, when the room is still dark, you can see Elizabeth's eyes glowing in the dark. Which I thought was pretty cool.
@MikeMandrill11 жыл бұрын
As the Luteces says, every reality will eventually ends up the same way. Booker getting drowned by Elizabeth, Comstock also getting drowned by his alternate self. Dying is Booker's fate and he never will live a normal life with Anna/Elizabeth since he have to die in order for her to live a normal life. And that would be his way to make amends for what he did (wounded knee + selling her daughter). In any ways, I don't think there is any happy ending for Booker.
@daemonflayer11 жыл бұрын
One could view it as not "going back" and instead as being a different Booker who makes a different choice. There are an infinite number of him, and all Lutece needs to do is find the "correct" one.

@durendal Isn't the idea that she brought him to the epicenter of the universes to end it from the source. By the end of the game Elizabeth is essentially omnipotent so it's feasible to think she could do this.

I'm fairly certain that Anna was born after the Baptism choice, given that Comstock needs to acquire Booker's child. Thus, erase him before the choice and there is no Anna/Elizabeth. This creates the paradoxical situation where the element which kills him does not exist, and thus he is not destroyed. Then he goes on to make the choice, and create the situation to be killed again.
@JayfeatherHalfMoon11 жыл бұрын
because it was when he was baptized that he became Zachary Comstock. If he never gets baptized Zachary Comstock never exists.

This game and the original Bioshock share a LOT of parallels. Which is why I wonder if Ken Levine and team already PLANNED to make this game. Or they just went ahead and made the story, taking advantage of the already established elements in the universe.

Is it just me, or does the ending mean Booker sold Elizabeth/Anna and the whole game was just a hallucination to redeem himself, but he's still all alone in that apartment. Like it said in the beginning, "the mind struggles to create memories where none exist".
@vissenekku11 жыл бұрын
Anna doesn't have the power anymore because she was never caught by the tear. And she is just a baby, everything she remembers will be just a distant dream for her in later age. Booker on the other hand seems to remember everything. Why is it that whenever booker dies, his consciousness is sent back to last possible turn, is still unknown. Is it because he way out of his own dimension, or is it just him? If it was the former, it wouldn't only affect him and Anna, but also Robert Lutece.

Ok this is total BS. If you want to include multiverse theory in your game then there can BE NO SINGLE ENDING! Any end you can imagine for this game is possible (including the one in which Batman somehow shows up and saves the day). Any sequence of choices or actions is possible in multiverse theory. For every No there is a entire Universe of Yes's.

Does anybody know, or have theories, on what happened to the Luteces after Comstock is erased? Do they still exist as entities spread through out the multiverse? Or are they leading normal life in their own universes, because Comstock never existed, thus never ordered Fink to rig their machine which gave them their powers in the first place?

@Nortorock11 жыл бұрын
Think about whether the baby was really there or not? Are you saying he was dreaming? Cause that was some damn dream. If you are talking about the idea of multiple universes, Elizabeth's and such, that was already expressed previous to that point. I get it, but cutting just as you are about to see whether the baby is there or not in whatever universe he got thrown into, is just mean....it does not add to the ideas or lore its a cliffhanger just for a cliffhanger sake.
@Orphican11 жыл бұрын
Both. All. None. Some. Most. Little... I could go on (and so could the Leutece's) If there is an ending in which Anna lives then there are ending in which she lives as a child, or as we see here most of the game, or as old Elizabeth. The variations are "Infinite". (And a total waste of time imho.) But thats how multiverse theory works. Booker's death means nothing as well, for in any universe where he dies there is one where he does not.
@vissenekku11 жыл бұрын
